Unfortunately your eyesight and legs are in risk with diabetes. You ought to get enough information from your doctor or diabetes nurse if you have one. It will get better as you get used to the disease. Good luck.

S75 Ram
Hi Ash, sorry to hear that mate but it's not the end of the world by any means. I've had type 1 for best part of 30 years now and still got all my limbs Seriously though you do need to use a bit of common sense, but things have moved on a lotsince I was diagnosed.People think type 1 is worse than type 2, but once you get the hang of giving yourself the right amountof insulin (and that can take time to get it spot on) you can enjoy life much more than someone whohas to try and control it by diet alone. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have - pm me if you don't want to discuss in an open forum. All the best.
Ashz09
Yeah the one I have needs insluin for the rest of my life as my pancreas is not producing it. I have to inject twice a day and take blood levels 4 times a day. It's a life changer for sure. Kept needing toilet in middle of the night and thirsty all the time. Also feeling tired. Seems my mum and dad have the same thing but could be that there old to be fair. Had a yougart yesterday.. went upto 24%!
Cisse
Tiredness will give away and you will start even better than most of the normal healthy people after you get things in check. Youghourt is horrible for you.
davenportram
my old mans got type 1, he's been managing it for twenty odd years. It os a life changer in a way but you crack the diet, keep up with the tests etc you will be fine I'm sure. Come on if Redgrave can win 5 gold medals then it doesn't have to be a life ender. Day
Probably best to ask for a voluntary amputation now, sooner you have your limbs removed the longer you have to adjust to life and enjoy what you have left. Don't go crazy and ask for both legs and arms removed, that's just daft, I would go for just the legs or maybe one leg and one arm. Golden rule is always keep one arm, it's best to choose the one you use the most like wiping after a number 2, that kind of thing. Unless you like a challenge of course but wiping with your weak hand is no easy task. After breaking my wrist I was forced to wipe with my weak hand, elbows and legs flying everywhere, after a few days I just went for the pinching a piece of bog roll and dabbing with my stronger hand. Obviously you wouldn't have this choice tho so yeah, my advice would be to keep your wiping arm.

LesterRam
I was reading a while back that a cure is not too far away, they are making great strides on this and hopefully you will not suffer for too long..http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/266715/Scientist-close-to-finding-new-cure-diabetes
S75 Ram
The twice daily injection routine should be just to get you a bit more stable. It's not a great way of treating type 1 for the long term.4 times a day just before meals works much better and I'm sure your specialist nurse will be monitoring you closely to start with and will get you to move onto that method as soon as you are ready. There's loads for you to learn, but as the others have said once you get to grips with it youshould be fine. True kind of getting used to it a bit need to manage my levels better which I'm struggling but will get used to it hopefully when the diabetic diet starts. Just waiting for a date. According to the doctor I should be fine if I don't get lazy! Seems I'm the only one with type one who I know -.-.
