Newcastle set to sign Wijnaldum for £14.5m. Can't help but think they've been had there.

How have they been had, out of curiosity? Wijnaldum is a Dutch international who played at the last World Cup. He could have stayed and played in the Champions League with PSV. He has just had his best season in Dutch football - scoring 14 goals from midfield and captaining a team that won the Eredivisie.

He has always been recognised as a player with great technical ability and a player with a great deal of potential that is there to be unlocked.

He is only 24 and if he can stay fit, his best years are ahead of him. If he can adapt to the English game, he should offer the creativity and goals from midfield that they need to improve.

When you see Liverpool spending £29 million on Firmino and Man Utd looking to spend £20 million plus on Schneiderlin, both quality players in their own right, it should put the market into perspective.

It's a really astute signing for Newcastle, in my opinion.

Ze German!

Be good to see him in the Prem although doesn't have many more miles on the clock, tends to pick up a few injuries, couple of seasons and he'll be retiring in the MLS probably.

Call it a gut instinct. Feels like a signing being made to keep the fans happy..

Bad news for Middlesbrough their new signing Alex Baptiste got injury in the pre season friendly today match against York (at the moment) and it's broken leg by the sound of it. Ouch!

Maybe a few years ago this would be a good signing. There must be a reason by Bayern are letting him go. To get the best out of him they will need to play him in front of the back 4 with herrera +another energetic player  like schneiderlin (should they sign him) etiher side of him. If van gaal play both schweinsteiger and carrick together then they will get destroyed.

Man United have had a pretty eventful window. Nani and RVP heading to Turkey, Damian, Schweinsteiger and Depay coming in. All the Ramos, De Gea stuff doing on too.

Can't help but think Arsenal have made the best signing so far, Petr Cech.

West Ham have also had an excellent summer. Payet, Obiag, Ogbonna. Excellent!

Worst I think will be whoever buys Charlie Austin - No way is he worth over 15m, not at all!

Reason is that he refused to sign a new contract with Bayern, which would have ended after next season. No point trying to keep him when his mind is set and they'd get nothing for him next summer.

Great signing IMO, just what their midfield has been missing in recent years.

Darmian's a good signing too.

They were also rumoured to be after Muller from Bayern.

He's a cracking player and I'm looking forward to seeing him on MOTD.

I love FC Hollywood though and I'm gutted to see him go. End of an era. Who's Lahm going to room with?
