I think my Gaydar was well off for this game, compared to most folk.

Christie & Hughes were class. The other player I thought looked on his game was Martin, although that isn't a sentiment reciprocated on here.

I thought the first 20 the ball went nowhere near him in areas that counted, however I don't remember him giving possession away when he got it. Second half looked more dangerous.

Even showed a turn of pace to skin the full back under the scoreboard.

Best is a big lad eh? Gabbiadini esque legs!!!!

Omar spooned it everywhere for first 10 mins and then played it to the nearest man (sideways) for the rest of game. Would like to see him play from the start when he would have more of a license to penetrate and probe with a little more intent. Maybe Mon night at Carlisle.

Defence all round were on the ball.

Grant - 7 - Nothing to do apart from class save from Green's last minute header.

 

Christie - 8 - Solid at the back, looked a real threat going forward with his pace and physicality. Few poor first touches that against better teams would have put him in trouble. Great assist.

Keogh - 7 - Led the line well and didn't put a foot wrong.

Bucko - 7 - Solid, array of passing not quite as grand, will put it down to not being fully match fit  ... 

Forsyth - 7 - Didn't get forward as much as normal but was again untroubled at the back.

 

Hughes - 8 - Strong performance in the CDM role, tackled very well and rarely gave the ball away.

 

Bryson - 6 - Ran his socks of as per usual, but his movement in the final third wasn't quite there today. 

Hendrick - 6 - Same as above.

 

Russell - 5 - Offered nothing today, played far to narrowly offering no width or options for Christie.

Dawkins - 5 - Same as above.

Martin - 6 - Didn't have much luck today, think he would benefit Hughes playing higher up the pitch. 

 

Omar - 6 - Wanted the ball, seemed confident, perhaps a little too much so with a few balls going away from its target. Looks very promising to take over the Thorne position once he has a little more game time.

Grant - 7 - Great save at the end. Decent distribution with only a couple of dodgy decisions.

Christie - 7 - Did well. Needed a bit more help going forward rather than Russell running up front first half. Great assist.

Keogh - 7 - Back to normal. One great clearance second half.

Buxton - 6.5 - Steady, unspectacular. Didn't have to be.

Forsyth - 6 - Didn't have a lot to do really. Crossed from far too deep too often and lumped long balls randomly first half.

Hughes - 7 - Some lovely crunching tackles.

Bryson - 5 - Barely had an effect on the game.

Hendrick - 7 - started the season the way he ended it. Going to be huge for us this year.

Russell - 4 - missed a good headed chance first half. Drifted centrally too often when we needed width. Did nothing else.

Dawkins - 5 - Similar to Russell, perhaps with a bit more effect on the game though.

Martin - 6.5 - Tried hard, did what he could. Difficult when they defended the edge of the area so well and we crowded it too.

Subs -

Mascarell - 6 - Some decent passes, couple of ok challenges. Only one hospital ball.

Ward - 4.5 - He helped us stay wider a lot which was good but didn't really do much on the ball.

Best - not really fair to rate on short time. Made one good turn to beat a full back then a hugely wild cross with his chocolate peg.

Grant 8 - great save that won us the game
Christie 9 - MOTM, doubts about him have gone 
Keogh 6 - shakey
Buxton 7 - solid
Forsyth 6 - need to find his form going forward, but looked solid
Hughes 8 - not afraid to get stuck in

Hendrick 7 - didnt play well but got the goal
Bryson 5 - anonymous 
Russell 5 - expect more 
Dawkins 6 - always has good control, needs to try something different

Martin 5 - not enough service into him

Omar 6 - looked quick off the mark and can use both feet
Best 6 - calm on the ball and took up some good positions 

Ward 5 - gave the ball away but always has that threat

Think they are expecting forsyth to say back more. Thought bryson did well off the ball just that the teams passing wasn't great to him. Noticed we didn't press as high up the pitch as usual and noticed we brought all players back on few occasions. Think we won't be as free for all going forward this year

It's first game of the season, we won't be fully in sync again and bound to be a few nerves after the end of last season.

Worst thing today would be to fly forward and concede an early goal, when we settle we will attack more again

Omar gets a 7 for no other reason than he showed immeasurable composure for a young lad 4 days into his foreign sojourn surrounded by the hoofers from Rotherham.

Grant -8- brilliant save, confident catching, always tried to play out from the back.

Christie -8- Did everything well.

Keogh -7- Survived physical battle rather than dominated. Decent on the ball.

Buxton -7- Same as Keogh.

Forsyth -6- some nice crosses. Didn't play badly but wasn't quite at his best. Bit reluctant at times

Hughes -7- typically smart passing. Good

Bryson -6- didn't show up until half time. Then was more tidy than anything

Hendrick -8- Tried everything to get us playing faster. Did it all.

Russell -6- up against a brick wall and when he did break through he came up short.

Martin -6- got squashed between midfield and defence. Couldn't find him enough.

Dawkins -6- promised a fair bit but didn't come off for him

Omar -6- just kept it really simple. Never left his zone.

Ward -6- Another one who got in some decent situations. Luckily for him they got a bit more adventurous and he had more situations than Russell or Dawkins could have dreamed of.

Best -6- wasn't bullied as much as Russell but still struggled to deliver much in his short run.

buxton. 6.5 both made me a little nervous 

fozzy. 6 didnt really notice him 

hughes 7.5 looked good but a little lost 

bryson. 6 same as fozzy 

hendrick 7.5 good finish looked sharp

dawkins 6.5 good running at players, didn't create much 

russell 6.5 didnt do too much 

martin 7 didnt notice until his unusual burst of pace

 

 

ward 6.5 didnt make any impact 

best 7 looked good running at players. simmo wasnt very happy with his positioning 

omar 7.5 made a few good tackles and passes, but like everyone, made some mistakes
