World Cup Prediction League - Predictions

It seems like one correct score and fgs will fire anyone top. Japan - Ivory Coast did me a great favour!

When I started writing the app, I was struggling to think of a way to keep the interest going if someone was to start running away with it. As it is, there are about 10 participants who could go top with just a 2-1 or a 3-1 plus the FGS. Even the Memsahib is still confident that just four consecutive all-corrects would leave you all trailing in her wake.

I'm sure by the end of tomorrow, I will have rewritten the calculation engine. Bloody thing takes 30 seconds to run now.

Of course I'm still playing. We've got the same number of points today and we've both got the same prediction for the Croatia game. It's that young pretender Jourdan we need to be wary of.

Ee, I do like t see a bit of over confidence in my opponents.

Wish I could help, but I'm no good with VBA

Not a problem - at the moment I'm using nested 'If' statements, so as the number of both matches and predictions increase, the time to execute increases exponentially. I'm going to change it to use a single loop to process the predictions, then use locator variables to pick up the match results directly and to post the resultant points into a logical position (by column and row) in a worksheet based upon the match number and participant number. Should be simple.

In fact, if I read all the match results and FGS into memory and store them in an internal array as well, it'll be much more rapid.

Yea, nested if statements can get out of control pretty quickly

Array would be good, just gotta make sure its large enough or variable sized

Maximum number of matches in the entire tournament is only 64 - that will be the maximum dimension of the array. I'll allocate it dynamically based upon the 'high' match number for the current run (user-entered parameter).

Sorted then!

Sorted then!

There's no built-in 'sort' facility in VBA, but I can always write a swap sort/bubble sort.

Oh sorry, not what you meant.

:p
