Under Nigel, Barker was told he'd get his chance to play for Derby again if Barker and the specialists/medical team/fitness coaches made him available.

All the work he's been through has been based on that promise. All the times he's felt like giving up after knock backs and missing targets, he's come through because he has to believe that if he's passed fit then he'll have a club and some time on the pitch to fight for his place.

McClaren wouldn't change that.

Until Barker gives up or is passed ready and able, Derby will save a place for him.

Barker is one of those players that not only loves playing the game but loves the dressing room, the lads and being part of it all.

He's sound.

I wonder if Sam Rush regrets past actions. He was the agent at Wasserman Media Group when Barkers contract last got renewed. If he'd have known it would use approx £500k of DCFCs annual wage bill, whilst he was CEO. I wonder if he would have carried out the deal knowing.

I do applaud the club for standing by the player and hopefully he plays again. Looking forward to the pre season friendly he's lined up to play in, so we can all show out appreciation

Ok  it was a bit harsh to call him "a waste of space" but why keep him. derby county is a business keeping him on the books is just a waste of money and i can't agree more that "he" was a fantastic player but  Keogh has been a much better captain and a better player in my opinion who do you drop Buxton who has played his f**** heart out all season for barker who can't play the same level now and if he can't get fit to championship level at all and he call's it quits as derby fan i personally don't want him on the coaching team he was no better than Keogh  whats he gonna bring to coaching that we haven't got already i say release him from his contract give him a good retirement fund

Why release him from his contract when he could be useful this season? Not to mention being captain and a leader?....

The man deserves his chance to play in a Rams shirt again. A lesser man would have given up after 2+ years. The fact he's still gunning for a start says a lot about his character.

If he tries and fails, what will it matter? But to ship him out before giving him a chance is plain wrong in my opinion...

He deserves his chance at rehabilitation ,but he is costing the club thousands with wages and medical bills, the club lost out with Barnes in a similar situation, hope we have a better outcome with Barker either way.

A company that drops people like that would soon have it's name in the gutter.

He signed a contract to protect him. He was injured playing for us.

Imo Derby and Nigel did the right thing and McClaren had rightly carried it on.

Barker is working to get back. Drop him now and he's a 30(?)yr old defender who hasn't played a game in 2 years and still injured with a career ending injury. What chance does he have of finding a club? Of playing again for anyone?

I think football is cutthroat enough that DCFC don't need to add to it by dropping an employee who was injured under their care. Under their contract just to save money.

People talk a lot about players ruining football but there is another side of it too. Plenty of players cast aside with injuries. Short contracts expired and down the job centre looking for work.

Ok, Barker may have earned himself a healthy bank balance but the principle is all that matters. Imagine the reputation of Derby if we dropped him. I know if I signed for a club like that I'd demand some major clauses and a big long contract so if my career is ended I'd get something out of them. Would anyone even want to work for a company that does that to people?

It's not like Barker is sitting on that contract. He's desperate to be back in the game. On the bus, in the dressing room, on the training pitch, being back amongst the lads.

Without going off topic this is what I want to see,

ask yourself this would you prefer to see derby be a team of mercenaries that are bothered about themselves before the club,

or would you have a team of buxtons and barkers...

I know what I want..........

How the club have treated barker and how he has acted makes me proud to be a derby supporter,

Its what enables us to hold our heads up high and look down on lesser teams no matter the league table, its what makes us gagging to go and watch the TEAM perform and proud that we support derby not just because its where we live or are from, but it represents who we are as people, as a community!

Footballers are still treated better than mere mortals, I have not worked for a few years, but I am sure there used to be a rule in industry, that if after a period of illness or injury you could not perform the job you were contracted to do, the company were under no obligation, does this still apply?.

I would prefer a team of mercenaries ....what ever you say our whole team would jump boat, if they were offered more money no one is loyal in football and barker probably used use for free top class physio and hoping derby would releases him he's not from derby so why would he care

10  of our current squad are from the academy and or grew up with 25 miles of derby!

Sometimes on this forum I really do wonder if people put stuff on here to just get a bite!!

Seriously a team of mercenaries!!!!!!

There is a difference to loyalty and always giving 110%, putting your body on the line and appreciating what the club means to its fans.

If my lad played for derby and got a better offer whilst it would be hard I would tell him to do  whats best for him!

The team spirit and Graft is what make derby play so well, if you cant see that and would appreciate a load of mercenaries then theres no talking to you....

I am not the most loyal fan, the best supporter of the club but even I appreciate what the team represents!!

You should be delighted that QPR won on Saturday then, Thomas. They are a team of mercenaries. Why don't we take it a stage further - let the fans be mercenaries too if the players are?

You know what I'm saying, don't you Tom?

Feck off to QPR.
