watches....to dream on for

Cisse, hope you don't mind me picking your brains, you seem to be the goto watch guru round here, have you ever come across any Christopher Ward watches?

If so what's your opinion of them, seen a really nice one for a decent-ish price, just unsure how good it would be value wise?

Anyone else with an opinion on this brand?

Well ain't no guru about watches or anything else either but I do know the brand and how they operate. In my opinion Christopher Ward is good value for your money. The watches won't increase in value but as a daily beater they do the job very well. I would recommend getting one if you find one that you like.

THe C9 Harrison 5 day automatic looks an absolute beast, but it's chunky, 13.45 mm thick.

The Frederique Constant slimline, by comparison is only 5 mm thick but not automatic, obviously.

Lovely watch. Tried one on in an excellent jewellers in Nuneaton of all places. Fantastic range of stock, and some droolingly good pre-owned. The wife has got her eyes on a lovely old Rolex with stunning gold bracelet at an eye-watering

Would defo go for the Bremont, looks more class, just treated myself to a Tag Heur Carrera Crystal Automatic, bought in Fuengirola in Spain for 1600 Euros, price in the window was 2100 Euros so think I got a good deal, love it,cant take it off my wrist !

Heart says Bremont but El Primero caliber watch would be awesome. And their price will go up more surely than Bremonts.

Wahaay Cisse, just been to a watch wonderland, aka Robert Loomes of Stamford, Lincs. He claims to be the only watch maker making watches entirely manufactured in England. In Stamford in fact.

http://www.robertloomes.com/

No swiss movements, nor any non-English components. Actually met the guys who make them, assemble them, lacquer them, customise them, test and adjust them.

All in a cellar in Stamford! Trouble is, they only make numbered batches of 100, which sell out. I'm very tempted by an exclusive 1-of-11 automatic which wasn't made for general release, crystal back so that you can see the thing working.

I'm just not sure whether the exclusivity of this hand made piece is a better buy that an Omega De Ville Prestige co-axial automatic chronometer at a potentialy lower price.

The Robert Loomes is £2500, the Omega with a similar steel case and leather strap from £1800 (if you shop around) to £20,000 depending on the diamond encrusted gold cases. I'm talking like-for-like.
