North_Stand_Ram
Got the game up on a stream whilst watching England Sammon playing well. Done nothing wrong. Won most flick ons (unlike him) and has been working really well with Long, similar to a he does with Ward. Good performance. Interestingly, Long has been booked and is out of the next game against the Faroe Islands, in which you would think Sammon could play again? ChaddesdenRam
Sammon and Keane up front next game then? Who would have though that.. It will be as well. Sammon and Keane. That could work well, one of the world best finishers and someone who runs forever and will do all the dirty work and win flick ons.

Conor Sammon, after a slow start, began to trouble the Austrian defence with his physical presence and aerial threat, supplementing the valiant efforts of Long and McClean. Stive Pesley
Saw a tweet from an irish football blogger saying that Sammon was "barelling about like someone had stolen his wallet" Whatever that means. Didn't sound too complimentary

ronnieronalde
I watched the Irish game instead of England. I've got more of an attachment to Ireland right now with two of ours playing. Conor had a quiet first half to be perfectly honest. It looked as if he wasn't sure where he was supposed to be playing. He was dropping a bit too deep and not really influencing much at all Second half he had a very good opening 15 minutes and a decent last 30. As expected he chased everything and without doing anything outstanding he contributed. It sounded like the crowd appreciated his efforts. Horrible way for Ireland to drop two points but the Austrians deserved a point. He's been in 3 squads so far and got minutes on the pitch in every game. Not ideal for us with Friday in mind but really nice to see him get his first competitive start. Not sure if he did enough to cement his place in the starting 11 but enough to stay in the sqaud for sure. The game was crying out for an Irish midfielder to actually get on the ball. McLean and McCarthy both wasteful. Glen Whelan as well showed very little quality and looked dead on his feet after 60 minutes. Jeff must pull his hair out when they bring on Green instead of him, the same as keogh must be pulling his hair out to see St Ledger in the squad ahead of him based on this seasons performances Keogh is the better player. ShermanCardenas
http://www.footballfriendsonline.com/blogs/2013/3/26/the-rise-of-the-sammon-derbys-in-form-striker-video.html? Striker Conor Sammon finally looks set to make his full Republic of Ireland debut tonight after impressing this season in the Championship with Derby County. At the age of 25, Sammon has had to wait some time to represent his country and perhaps has taken a longer and more obscure route into the international setup than many of his compatriots. The Irishman played part-time with University College Dublin in his homeland before making a move to fellow League of Ireland side Derry City. Sammon made just a handful of appearances with Derry City before attracting the interest of Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock with whom he joined in the summer of 2008 after impressing during a trial spell. Sammon flattered to deceive in his first two seasons in Scotland, often quashed by the presence of fellow striker Kevin Kyle in the first team. However, in the 2010-11 season Sammon began to show real glimpses of quality in his play and had scored 18 goals for Kilmarnock before the end of January. At 6 foot 2 inches, Sammon certainly poses an aerial threat but has built his reputation upon his quick feet and excellent first touch. These skills impressed Wigan boss Roberto Martinez in January of 2011 and prompted the Premier League outfit to pay a reported £600,000 to bring Sammon to the DW Stadium. Although Sammon flirted with the fringes of the first team and failed to hold down a regular first team place, he was a figure in Wigan's great escape from relegation as the club retained their Premier League status in the last game of the season. However, Sammon's role in Wigan's survival that year did not do enough to convince Martinez of his ability to hold down a regular place in the starting eleven. As such, Sammon was sold to Derby County last summer for £1.2 million and has impressed at Pride Park, scoring 7 goals in 37 games. Whether Sammon has found his level in the Championship or he can rise once more to play in the Premier League remains to be seen, but a starting berth in the Republic of Ireland national team will certainly do his chances of progression no harm.
