Worst beer you ever drank ?

With Trappists the alcohol is hidden better, it doesn't come through so clearly. Dubbels are usually better in that way than tripels or quadrupels. If you have a chance to store Chimay Blue try it after 3-5 years. Excellent with cheese.

Indeed. I had a small glass from a 15 year old bottle of Grande Reserve in Bruges a few years ago. It takes on many of the characteristics of a great port wine when it reaches that age.

Shipstones........do they still make that shi te 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ?

Not for a long time. Rumour has it that at one time it was brewed in Burton. Not sure which brewery made it though. Greenhall Whitley bought them out 20-odd years ago - but they themselves got eaten by someone else. I lost track.

Didn't hardy Hanson buy grenalls?

A quick search reveals that Scottish and Newcastle did - and apparently it was Allied who brewed Shippos when it was moved to Burton.

I remember Greenalls brewed Grunhalle Lager about 30 years ago or more - worst thing I've tasted until that bloody Tequila-flavoured stuff last night.

Sure that it once was. Was even served in the Alex once. Memorable for a mate from Boro going to the bar and asking for two pies, chips and peas. Barmaid starts pouring two Beers. Mate looks over confused. I attempt to translate. Barmaid says, "sorry love I thought he said two pints of Shipstones please".

Feeling a bit nostalgic. There have been many travesties committed over the years, but my vote goes to Grunhalle. Just have to imagine the board meeting in Warrington at Greenhalls back in the 70s. Now then chaps, we've got to have a lager. Everyone's drinking it. Only we need a good name. Young sprog, you're bright, what's Greenhalls translate to in German. Put that lot in a Party Seven. Sorted.
