RAM RAIDERS?

Hi Peter, I want to know what you think about Derby's chances this season. Do you think that because we have had so many near-miss seasons that some investment is needed? Do you think Nigel Clough has come to the end of the road as the club's manager? Thanks, Matt Jones (Derby fan)

However, there are reasons for Rams fans to be optimistic. Nigel Clough is doing a decent job on limited resources and I think he should be persevered with until at least Christmas as he might be able to sprinkle some of the magic dust his father had onto the club, while their recent 5-1 win over Watfordhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer will be a great tonic. County do, though, need to make Pride Park a fortress, just as their previous home, The Baseball Ground, was. I think striker Conor Sammon will be a great signing and an excellent replacement for Stephen Davies who has moved to Bristol City, while Richard Keogh, a summer signing from Coventry, could be one of the bargains of the season; the centre-back is very quick, very accomplished on the ball and will serve as an excellent leader while regular skipper Shaun Barkerhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer continues his recovery from injury. Jamie Ward, meanwhile, is Derby's star player, a guy that can create goals from wide positions as well as get some himself. However, there are better equipped teams than the Rams to finish in the top 10 so for them to get anywhere near there would be a successful campaign.

A fairly fence sitting opinion, but one that seems to ring quite true.

Apart from the one about sprinkling Brian's magic dust.

Dunno who this guy is looks like hes just phoned his report in.

Does he know we finished 12th last season. Added Sammon and Keogh good signings he says. Doesnt mention Hughes worth more than a new signing. Plus sensible additions to the squad OConnor Coutts and Jacobs.

And he still he says we will do well if we get "anywhere near" the top 10?

yes other teams are well equipped with more money and bigger names. But Derby are well organised, balanced and work hard.

This league is tough and very hard to call. Not much to choose between the top 15 I would say.

Blackpool are top and we beat them twice last season. Forest and leeds are well fancied and we beat then both twice last year too. We are a better team than last year I think.

Fair opinion, but I still reckon we'll be sniffing around that top 6 come April.

Like I say we finished 12th last time and 3 of the teams that finished above us are now in the Prem. Of the 3 that have come down, weve played 2 of them away and were at least equal to them performance wise.

Maybe some teams from below us last year could rise above us; but only Forest (dare I say it ) threaten to do that.

Like I say I think we will do better than last year.

Why do these so called experts, journo's, insist in calling us ' County' not one single fan calls us County!!! It's always Derby or The Rams and has been for many many years.

Just proves they know nothing about us.

Glad it bothers someone else!!

They never say Notts Forest.

County is Notts County. The least they could do is use a name the fans use. Besides, do you really need to shorten Derby to County?!!!

Ars*holes, opinions, we all know everyone has one of each. Nothing wrong with his opinion, he stated the obvious with our highest profile signings and didnt care to mention the young uns coming through or the cheapies we signed (probably because he doesnt know a whole pile about them). Last year the same man was tipping Ipswich and Leicester for automatic promotion and half of the footballing world (the ones who were interested in the campionship) were agreeing with him - we all know what happened in the end. The majority on this forum have a vested interest in a successful Derby, we are all biased towards what we want to happen and without many results under our belt our dreams are still intact. Beagrie may prove to be right but it is pretty irrelevant one way or another and I couldnt give a monkeys what he calls us - we all know we are the Rams!

Don't mean to be picky but doesn't that make it part of our heritage?

Well the word County is very much part of our heriatage, but the way the club has evolved it is not used as a single word description by fans. The only ones who use it are journo's
