It doesn't matter what you say, I've realised over the last few day's @RoyMac5 will never blame Rooney for anything?. Rooney could literally sub himself on and intentionally score an own goal and @RoyMac5would blame the keeper for not saving it. I'm beginning to suspect Wayne's hacked his account.??

If we're having that many shots, why is our xG so low? I've looked at 3 different sources and they have us at 19th, 21st and 21st. Could it be our shots have been when the opposition have many players behind the ball to block? I can't think of many times our players have had clear cut chances or been 1 on 1 with the keeper. Or are most our shots headers? aren't headers generally less accurate?

Maybe thats the answer as we aren't creating or carving out good opportunities as you allude to that statistically a team would be far more likely to score from then a random potshot from outside of the area.

yeah, the answer is he and his assistant are poo.

More to the point why can it only be addressed in January? There is way more he can do tactically to get us on the front foot and scoring some goals, regardless of players.

They did though, they brought in Roberts and Gregory. We've had a strike force of Waghorn, Gregory and CKR for most of Rooney's time. They're not world beaters by any means but they're still average Championship standard. Certainly not the worst in the division. Blame the managers tactics for the lack of goals, not them.

Honestly, how bad do we have to be before you start questioning Rooney? If he took us down to the National League with this squad would you still blame the players?

I'm also desperate for Barnsley to get in the play-offs.
because it would mean they'd have beaten our rivals.
    What universe are we in??

Did you not see in my post where I put "most of Rooney's time"?
Those injuries have only happened in the last 3 or so games, what about the 20+ games they were available?

Shots within the entirety of the penalty area aren't particularly high: 268 shots, which is 19th of 24 where the average is about 293.
Having said that, we're 8th for shots from within the 6-yard box, with 42 of our 268 penalty box shots being taken from that area, so the shots we are taking from within the area are generally ones that are higher quality chances. Different models use different stats, but I know xG modellers tend to average a shot from this area as about a 1 in 3 chance of goal (shots from the 18-yard box tend to be about 1 in 8 and outside the box about 1 in 33, so you could consider a shot from within 6 yards as 2.5x as valuable as a shot from within 18 yards).

But teams having an initial impact when a new manager comes in happens all the time. Oppositions don't know how the new manager is going to set up and how to counter them, but once the first team "finds them out" the initial impact fades. Also Bielik was a massive factor as well. But I'll just give Rooney the benefit of the doubt and say he did well when he first arrived, but for me the key problem is the regression of performances. If we started worse but gradually improved I could accept that but it's the opposite. The constant and increasing almost erratic changes of tactics and lineups are always a sign a manger is running out of ideas.
But why do you automatically blame the players for this? Is it not the tactics and setup which create chances as well? As I've argued in previous posts, I believe we have more quality than other teams around us in the table and if you put many of our players in other teams they'd create/score more. I understand the striker injury problem is massive, but that's only happened recently. I still believe even with all our injury problems, we still have a better team that many of our relegation rivals.
For me our main problem is the manager. We sacked Cocu and his team and literally didn't replace them, we just promoted coaches who were already here! I'm not holding it against them, but Rooney and Rosenior were originally brought in to be coaches, there first jobs while they learnt, which I was happy with. Why are they now our manager and assistant? It's like Tottenham sacking Mourinho and just promoting Ledley King and Ryan Mason. Except even worse!

I think Byrne can put in a decent delivery, but I've been saying for years we don't have a good set-piece taker(except while Wilson was here) but that's an angry post about our recruitment team for another thread?

But what does a manager/coach do if not make gifted individuals play as a team?

I'm not saying they're good, but surely they're at least better than relegation.

How can Rooney be a disappointment if you don't think anyone else could get better out the team? That doesn't make sense. Wouldn't that just make you content with Rooney? I just have to disagree, I think another manager would get more out of them. How many clubs in our position in the past, sack a manager and need someone to come in and save them from relegation, hire a complete unqualified novice? it's unheard of. Other clubs in this situation would hire an experienced manager to hopefully see them through. I believe if we went for someone like Mick McCarthy (who's previously got the best out of Lawrence and Waghorn at Ipswich) he'd would do enough to keep us up.
Rooney play's worse football than anyone else in the league and for me has shown no tactical nous what so ever. Even teams with mostly league 1 players like Rotherham play better. Would it not even be worth a Mac all or nothing gamble? he's had instant results before.

It’s mid-April and I’m fist-pumping over the fact Birmingham have scored a last minute winner over Rotherham. Can we go back to 2014 please?

Considering Rotherham seem to be our main rivals this season, how many of there players would you actually put in our team? 1 or 2 if that? There squads so bad they were even happy to take Jozefzoon of us.
Does this not suggest that we should at least be above Rotherham's level? does this not suggest that either the players aren't playing to there ability? or (more likely in my opinion) the coaches aren't getting the best out of them?
