Washout on Day 2. Not been much game time for the bowlers in these games.
-
Chappell goes onto 62 off 38 balls just smashing it everywhere 😂
out for a top score of 67
-
Zak Chappell comes in and puts the batsmen to shame with 3 sixes and 3 fours from just 14 balls so far
-
A nice attacking 62 from Donald, who has been the bright spark today, but he decided he wanted to hit the spinner out of the park and got it all wrong.
He’s going to be fun too watch, but drive me mad at times 😆
-
Donald came out and played for lunch…..7 runs off 3 balls. 88-5
-
Currently 80-5 against Leeds Uni 😬
Guest and Donald currently at the crease.
I think the strength of our batting is going to greatly depend on the development (or lack of) of Came, Guest, and Donald this season.

Derbyshire second XI currently playing the South Asian Cricket Academy.
i say second XI, its the first time with a couple missing.
Reece, Came, Lloyd, Guest, Lamb, Donald, Dal, Thomson, Chappell, Conners, Brown
Batting first, 174-5 😬 a lot of starts but no-one kicking on.

Amir to miss the start of the season due to international call up…typical. All we need is a couple of injuries and my hope and enthusiasm will have dwindled considerably 🥲
I was going to post this yesterday, but I was too busy sulking.
In other news, the pipeline of young Lancashire players coming down to Derbyshire continues. We have signed Jack Morley on a season-long loan.
A 22 year old left arm spinner with 25 first class wickets from 9 appearances. Hopefully he follows in Brooke Guest’s footsteps, does well and makes the move permanent.

I was at Colwyn Bay for Donald's 234. If he can bat like that this season I'll be very happy.
Of course Whiteley is available for Red Ball cricket, not sure if he's played any recently but it would be nice if he could hit the runs that get us promoted again.
Whiteley’s last red ball game was for Hampshire against a Sri Lanka development XI in May 2022 - he scored 55 not out.
It's been a while.

Let’s worry about getting there first, if and when we’re there and struggling as per your crystal ball then Warne may well be moved on and everyone can get behind a new manager….there’s games to play before then though
Steady on…

I wonder what the Vikings plan now is? Cousins, Wilson, Mayfield off the market and Bears won't trade you Fields... JJ McCarthy in the draft?
We will draft a rookie, with McCarthy looking like the most likely.

Kirk is a Falcon, 4 year contract, per his agent.

Wilson going to the Steelers.
Still think that the Falcons are being leveraged for more cash from the Vikings for Cousins.
Vikings are saying, see if you can find more money because our offer isn’t moving…it hasn’t done for over a year now. We aren’t in a place to give a aging veteran big guaranteed money for multiple years.
It’s up to the Falcons whether they want to better the offer. Offer him a 3 year contract and he’s a Falcon.

The noise seems to be going that way. A good option for the Falcons if a bit risky given he's off the back of a torn Achilles. At least he's a free agent so it's a top 12 QB without giving up draft picks.
If he comes back and plays like he was last season before the injury, he's the best QB in the division by miles.

Winner of worst trade and contract in the history of sport goes to…..
The Denver Broncos 🤦♂️🤣
Fully expect Russell Wilson to land in Minnesota, with Captain Kirk off to Atlanta.

Interesting quote from Mickey Arthur in his preseason interview.
“We’ve invested in our bowling attack and our batters are now at a point where they can play on any surface. I’m not suggesting we suddenly play on green tops, but we can trust Neil (Godrich, Head Groundsman) to give us the sort of pitch which, if we play well enough on it, will give us the opportunity to win games at Derby. Neil is one of us; he’s part of my team, and an important part.”
Hopefully a bit more in the pitch for the bowlers this season, and some more interesting cricket at HQ.

I just hope he is still sporting the fantastic mustache he had, after we lost Scrimshaw. Every cricket team needs a player with a quality mustache…

Though by the looks of the performance in this university game, it might be a blessing 😬
