The Olympics Thread

The French are getting really bitter over our velodrome domination.

Good. Having more gold medals than France, Germany and Australia combined is part of what's making this Olympics so fooking great!

That's almost as good as that one the other day of the American girl who was supposedly nailed on for the gold, doing the vault and landing squarely on her @r$e!

Re the French complaining;

The French cycling team complained today that reserve rider Francois Pervis was not allowed to train on the velodrome track, amid a feeling among rivals that hosts Britain were being favoured.

"Because he is a reserve rider for the sprint, he is not allowed to train on the track since his event is over," French technical director Isabelle Gautheron told Reuters.

"He was not allowed on the track by LOCOG (London organising committee). It's just ridiculous, there are only five riders on the track. Francois could have helped as a sparring partner for his team mates."

LOCOG officials said regulations stated that since the individual sprint event had already started, Pervis was not considered as a reserve rider anymore and could not be allowed to be on the track during what they called a "warm-up session".

Gautheron also said Britain, the world's best track cycling outfit, were the team benefiting from more space than any other in the paddock inside the track.

"Britain's box is about three times the size of the others," she said.

"It's OK for us because we don't have pursuit teams so we don't need too much space but Australia or New Zealand do have pursuit teams."

This coming after this;

President Francois Hollande has had a dig at David Cameron by jokingly thanking Britain for "rolling out the red carpet" for French athletes to win Olympic medals.

Mr Hollande was getting his own back on Mr Cameron for comments in which the Prime Minister said he would roll out the red carpet for French businesses fleeing the 75% top rate of tax proposed by the Socialist president.

The French leader also hinted that a French city could bid to host the Olympics in 2024, after Paris lost out to London as venue for this year's Games.

Mr Hollande joined Mr Cameron at the Olympic Park yesterday to watch France take on Spain in the handball, and gave the PM a few tips about the rules of the game.

Speaking to the French press later, he could not hide his delight at the fact that France has so far outshone the UK at the London Games, notching up three gold medals, one silver and three bronzes by the end of yesterday, compared with Britain's one silver and two bronzes.

"The British have rolled out the red carpet for French athletes to win medals and I thank them very much," quipped a smiling Mr Hollande.

"But the competition is not over. I talked to David Cameron and he has great hopes in swimming and athletics. We will see the totals at the end."

Mr Hollande also joked that British sports fans could be heartened by seeing their medals as part of the European tally.

"In the end, it's the European total which counts," he said. "We will put the French medals in the European bag, and that way the Britons can be happy to be Europeans."

Seriously, they're surprised why the majority of Britons can't stand Europe. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blink:' />

Oh well Francois, never mind, your economy may be more fooked than our's, you may have lost your AAA credit rating, your banks may be relocating to London, but at least, for 2 days, you were doing better than us in the Olympic medal table. Oh, and for the record, since then you've been humiliated by Team GB, and, well, erm........Wahahahahahahahaha! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' /> Now fook off back to that rock you've crawled out from under. C**t.

I can't wait for the closing ceremony - hopefully we'll be able to fashion a 5 minute routine around saying 'fook off to the French'.

Perhaps a North Korea-style faux pas with their flag if they manage to get another medal - instead of the tricolour, perhaps raise a white flag instead...... 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' />

Sorry for Sayers women javelin and Pozzi mens 110 hurdles both tried but both suffering from injuries picked up at Crystal Palace 3 weeks ago. On a brighter note watch out for the Brownlee brothers in triathlon genuine Gold medal hopes. Good luck boys this is a tough event .Swim . Bike .and then 10k run.

Probably be gold and silver with them two, Alistair first and Johnathon second. Fair play to them both, they do this reguarly. 1.5km swim, 43km cycle, 10km run.

That penalty was harsh for Johnathon Brownlee, he collapsed aswell at the end. Interesting view from the iron man competitor (forgot her name) that standing still for 15 seconds can effect your heart rhythm, Alistair was not not impressed by the rule.

Congrats to them both though, Gold and Bronze ain't bad.

Silver for Pendleton, Gold for Hoy.

Two great finals - congrats to Anna Meares, she got her tactics all right in that second race, forcing Penbo to take the initiative too early.

Hoy - domination all the way through the heats, and in the final. Even though the other fella got slightly ahead of him on the final lap, Hoy always had the inside track, and you just knew he was conserving enough for that final burst of speed around the last bend.

Great overall performance from Team GB in the velodrome!
