I can't understand why Callum Ball is the new messiah just because he is no longer here. I like Callum Ball and think he may develop into a good player but if we went into the season with Ball as our main striker the knives would still be out cos he's ' too young / inexperienced/ not good enough '. There is still time for a new striker to come in and if Davies goes I'm sure one will.

Yeah but people like to moan and complain! Don't spoil it for them.

Davenport its tongue in cheek. We've never replaced the likes of Hulse or Howard. Thatys what I'm getting at. We need a target man we aint Spain. We need an outlet.

exactly what i was saying the other day, and was shot down because 'we wouldn't have let ball go'

Ball isn't up to it yet, he may be ready next year but at the moment we need a proper striker.

every team needs an out ball, and in the championship ,especially, using a target man who can bring it down and work others into play is vital, unless the defence can play it out from the back. we haven't had a proper target man since stevie howard. although S.Davies went through a patch of doing well in that role.

In answer to your question - we'll sign a striker when we find one we want.

I'm not sure we'll wait to sell Davies. We didn't wait to offload before we bought Jacobs, and spent more on Keogh than we made from the sale of Shackell, so it doesn't seem to be a 'one in, one out' policy at the moment.

The board know they'll get a decent price for Davies, I reckon they might gamble if they can land someone before they move him on.

I thought we sold Maguire before we bought Jacobs.

It’s possible we spent more on Keogh than Shackell. Clough did thank the owners for their help with bringing in Keogh and that did sound like they'd given him a bit of extra cash to make it happen. I'm sure TG would've let us know if this was genuine ‘extra investment’ so I’m expecting it will just come out of Clough's kitty for a new striker/LB cover.

History doesn’t suggest they’ll do this (gamble) on a bigger scale with Savies. Last summer everything came to a complete grinding halt because we couldn’t offload players in time.

Which teams will we be scouting then? If you take out the unrelistic one's then you are left with a shower of *****.

Yes exactly, they are the ones in our price range, so don't hold your breath.

They've said they're going to send scouts to the olympics, so we might be getting someone young from them (not Neymar!) Link on here, but nothing about what positions as I remember...

DERBY County will have scouts at a number of matches during the Olympic men's football tournament.

The tournament features 16 countries and kicks off today.

There are four groups of four and Great Britain are in Group A along with Senegal, whom they play tonight at Old Trafford. United Arab Emirates and Uruguay make up the group.

Brazil scored a comfortable victory over Great Britain in a warm-up match last week and they and Spain are favourites to win gold.

Derby manager Nigel Clough confirmed that the Rams would be represented at some matches.

"There is not much point in us watching Brazil, unfortunately," he smiled before adding: "We also know all the GB players, so there is not much point being at their matches either.

"We have received tip-offs about a couple of players from other countries, so we feel there is a good reason to be at certain games, and we will have a presence there."

Clough will probably scout the womens matches!!

They will be cheaper and thats what counts!

I'm sorry, but that's a really narrow minded view of the world.
