Bone idle Shilts............

DERBY County are eyeing the Scottish market again as they check out possible targets for next season.

Manager Nigel Clough watched Dundee United beat Inverness CT on Monday night and says more scouting trips north of the border are planned.

Clough attended the Scottish Premier League fixture to run the rule over a number of players.

One of the players is thought to be left-back Paul Dixon.

The 25-year-old started his career at Dundee before he joined city rivals United in 2008. His contract expires in the summer.

Derby's first-choice left-back Gareth Roberts is also out of contract at the end of the season. The Rams are believed to be looking to offer Roberts a new deal but they are searching for competition and cover in that position.

Striker is another position the Rams are keen to strengthen in the summer and two Dundee United forwards have been in the goals this season.

Club captain Jon Daly has hit 17 in 33 appearances and the 29-year-old 6ft 3in centre forward has been linked with West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic.

Johnny Russell is 21 and has come through the club's youth system.

He has scored 13 goals and is a regular in Scotland's Under-21 team.

Derby signed two players from Scotland last summer in midfielder Craig Bryson and striker Chris Maguire.

Bryson has impressed in his first taste of football in England and has missed only one league game.

Maguire has found it more difficult to break into the first team but Clough says the 23-year-old is still in the plans.

"We are aware of the success of Craig Bryson since he has come down here," said Clough.

"The one thing you get up in Scotland is good honest players and the wages are more realistic than some of the English players.

"So we'll just keep an eye on a few players who might be available or out of contract.

"There will be more scouting missions and we have got somebody up there going to games."

The Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Belgian leagues are all on a doorstep but instead we trawl Scotland. A joke league where only 2 teams can ever win anything and one of those is going out of business.

Does Nigel not know how to handle foreign players? Is he worried about language barriers or something?

Are they taking the mick? He was hardly a standout at League One/Two for Hartlepool, mind you if Aaron WIlbraham can play in the Prem.

'Success of Craig Bryson'?

He's feckin average at best, if we're looking for more 'good, honest players' of his calibre we'll be exactly where we are now, next season.

We're scouting a league where Lee Croft walks into the 5th best team in the country.

'Wages are more realistic' - cos most of them are ****

My bad, I was going to offer some watertight excuse related to tablet pc's or some such nonsense but I don't own one and my laziness prevails!

It was the last bit about " might be available or out of contract" that really bites. Not only are we scouting one of the worst leagues in Europe we are also hoping to pick up freebies! As for "might be available" We are Derby County any player outside of Celtic should be available to us!
