Diag Ram
Hey, just want to get some tips on FIFA 12 (XBox) defending. As you know if you own the game, there's a new way of defending now. When playing the computer, you CANNOT get the ball off the computer, as even David McGoldrick is actually Lionel Messi in disguise, and will skim your entire defence before blasting in his fifth goal in 15 mins. On top of this, Wesley Morgan is really Shaun Barker and you ain't getting past him. How do you tackle, and get the god damn ball? I have tried and tried and I can't get it. I can't stand another game where you work and work to score a goal, only for the computer, who has done f*** all for the whole game, to walk up the other end and score only moments later. It happens EVERY game! 1 shot, 2 goals, me 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> Ok, question (and rant) over. Any tips you've picked up on defending would be greatly appreciated. COYR
blackNwhites
Hold down green to track the player and use blue to tackle/kick them. If you're already doing that you're *****.
Alph
I hold LT and just defend passes and forward runs. I take my finger on/off the A button to close the gap occasionally but it's usually about positioning yourself just as you would in the real world. then periodically using RB to bring across a teammate. You can alter the pass error slider for the AI if you want so see more of the ball. Setting it to 68-72 makes them challenging but not boring. Against other players it's much easier to jockey them into running down dead ends where they can be tackled or whatever. Actual tackles v Computer are quite rare. Usually don't get close enough until you can over crowd them 20yrds from goal.
Leicester Ram
go for LT (is thats xbox's R2?) and hold along in front of the attacker and wait for him to try and come past you. try to get to CB's with pace quicker than 75, it really helps alot. i cant really describe how i do it. Im just a natural you see 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
StaffsRam
Alternatively, go into the options and turn off the new defending system as it's sh1te. Much better game without it. Diag Ram
Thanks, I'll give those a go. Tempted to turn off the new system but I don't want to admit defeat! Problem with holding green and then trying to tackle is usually you get close, then as soon as you press blue, the computer knows you're doing it and changes direction. Of course, as I'm not plugged into the Xbox I don't have the same luxury. I'll try the LT option, never really used that before as the old system was so easy. So frustrating, but I appreciate it's much more realistic. Here's to a few wins hopefully, although I'll trade losing the next 50 games for a win tomorrow! COYR! Duracell
The only thing I can say other than what's been said is that you defend like you would on the real football pitch - you don't go around chasing the man on the ball. You need to learn when to stand off the player on the ball. Tackling was so easy on previous Fifas, I'm glad they've done something about it. EastKentRam
I cant remember the last time i pressed B to make a tackle, it just slows you down and takes players out of the game. Use Right Bumper a lot to double up on players and just track the runners.

DerbyRam!
I've recently perfected my tactics vs the computer and now win most games on legendary 1-0 or 2-0, there bloody difficult to score against! Let them come to you, never rush after them with even 1 player, Sit back and change directly to the player who is infront of the ball posessor, if they come closer, move in for the kill. Most likely he'll turn around and pass, if he does change to the player directly infront of the ball and repeat till they make a mistake/get pushed back to their goal. If instead he tries to use skill(i hate augero on this game :/) well, you havn't sprint in and will still be infront of him, use the left stick to get in his way and make it run the ball into you 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> try it 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> tell me how it goes 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> if your on xbox 360 i'd love to give you a game 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> (you only really need to use the "sprint" button when attacking 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> or sprinting to a lose ball or when they totally destroy you with a good pass and you're running back :L) (ps.dont follow this advice online as it simply is a totally different game 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />) and also keep your shape vs the computer, they love gaps :/ PsPs. I use The current derby team as they are on legendary in the premier league(i got us promoted 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />)

Red_Dawn
Its all about positioning and jockeying with the buffer button. You need to basically put a player between the oppo player and your goal, then call over a second man to make the tackle. Also when your jockeying there is no need to press O (PS3) as when hes close enough your player will make the tackle anyway. Takes practice, but its a cracking game when you get used to it.
