hintonsboots Posted Monday at 13:02 Share Posted Monday at 13:02 Despite playing for the club with Englands most fickle fans, he was a superb footballer and 63 is no age at all. Mucker1884 Posted Monday at 13:24 Share Posted Monday at 13:24 Good player, from what I recall. Was often mentioned in the full time reports at 5 pm on a Saturday, and a fair few pics on the Sunday back pages. I don't recall anything of a negative nature being mentioned about him. And of course, he played more than his fair part in guiding Villa towards their greatest ever evening. I recall his baby-faced good looks, and assumed he'd be younger than me. I used to think 63 was old, and a fair time to go. Heading rapidly towards my 62nd, I now realise that is utter tripe. No age, indeed! RIP Mr Shaw, and congratulations on your achievements. I hope you take your medals with you. xxx hintonsboots and Crewton

He was a breath of fresh air in that Villa team that won the league and the European Cup, against a proper European giant too. His career then looked unstoppable, but it didn't seem to go that way. I think injuries stymied it a fair bit. RIP Gary Shaw - far too young. Reggie Greenwood and hintonsboots
IslandExile Posted Monday at 13:30 Share Posted Monday at 13:30 He was a good player. Went down injured playing against those from down the road. I think it was Ian Bowyer who thought he was play acting and pulled him to his feet, rupturing a tendon (I think) in his knee. From which he never fully recovered and his career sadly petered out. In the BBC article, it says: Quote in September 1983, he sustained the knee injury that ultimately ended his career. cstand and Crewton 1

Never mind, all being well, I should be 64 in a couple of weeks. Yeah, in Gary Shaw's case, ridiculously too young. Sad loss to the football world. RIP. A wry smile, if I may, mate! 😉 I reiterate the term "used to", and my more up-to-date "Utter tripe"! And I am going back a while when my thoughts were such! In my defence... if I need one... my past thoughts may well have been swayed by losing both parents before they reached 50. I just assumed it was written in my stars! I'm now more of a liking to my dear departed father-in law, who left us earlier this year just shy of his 93rd. I know which I'd prefer nowadays, if truth be told! Oh... and erm... Good luck, yeah! 😁🍻 IslandExile
