Tommy Johnson's goal was direct from a corner I think

You are correct - I hunted down the goals on YouTube and it did indeed go straight in from a corner.

I do now actually remember seeing the goals before, so they must have been lodged in my subconscious all this time!

57. Year, opponents, memories. 0-2 defect.

I should probably take a day off but the prospect of finally getting the correct year is too great to resist...

Chorley away (FA Cup 3rd round) in...

wait for it...

2021!

(And even now I'm doubting myself!)

The headlines the next day clearly had a different meaning back then!

Cor, there's even a "crowd rating" at the end there too! 95... presumably out of 100?

59. Year, opponents, memories.  Tricky one today, I've posted it because it was Paul Blades only ever Derby goal. This game has a bit of significance for me that I'll explain later.

Coventry 1989, only remembered  because of Blades goal.

Game was the week before the Hillsborough Disaster i think.

Sat in C Stand, goal was in the Normanton End an absolute screamer from 25 yards.

I think I have the significance to you, it was April 1st 1989 😉

Almost!  My wife was very heavily pregnant at the time and went into labour on Sunday 2nd while the highlights show was on. I kept saying 'yes I'll drive you to hospital once I've seen the Derby goal'!  Eventually our daughter popped out in record time!

And yes, two weeks later, I recall sitting on the sofa holding the wee baby, watching the awful events at Hillsborough unfold on TV.
