January 17th 2004. Derby are deep in the relegation mire, having only won 5 games all season. Their last victory was back in November and they've endured a dismal Christmas. George Burley has a trick up his sleeve for this home game against the mighty Gilligham though, step forward Jamie Vincent. The man, the myth, the legend has arrived from Portsmouth to save the season. Striding confidently forwards he shoos Candido Costa away from the ball and slams a free kick into the top corner on his debut. The crowd erupt and tentative plans for a commemorative statue are discussed as Derby win 2-1.

Tommy Johnson scored Gilligham's consolation, and it was an absolute screamer of a half volley from a long way out. He received a deserved round of applause from the Derby fans.

46 games is a long season and sometimes the build up of injuries and suspensions can lead to clubs being forced to sign players in January that they'd never even consider under normal circumstances. The next free kick goal scorer is one such case. His January debut brought little fanfare and honestly invoked memories of the time Clough signed Michael Boulding to make up our squad numbers. An aging player who hadn't really achieved much in his career, he was expected to make a few substitute appearances at best. We win a free kick on the edge of the area against Stoke and obviously Waghorn is going to take it, but wait, the journeyman barges him out the way. Howls of derision are heard around Pride Park. "What the duck is he doing?" "Who the hell does he think he is?" "SMACK HIM WAGGY!". Against all the odds the free kick sails into the top corner. A truly special moment for the player and one that will certainly be described as the high point of his career.

Mark Pembridge scored a few. I’ll go with a direct one in a 4-2 away win at Swindon.

Not the one you were on about, but it is a Pembridge free kick against Swindon ?
