Tony Le Mesmer
I think the key thing to remember about getting a dog is to make sure you understand about their behaviour and treat them as dogs and not as people. They are animals not people so need to be raised as one for their welfare as much as ours. Just imagine you went to live with a wild pack of wolves. You have human needs not wolf needs. Don't confuse them. Even something as simple as letting your dog sleep on the bed can cause problems. I've seen dogs used to this who start behaving aggressively when they are encouraged to get off. Of course all dogs are different but they have been bred with certain traits and evolved over many many years. No matter how little and cuddly they are, stop bloody carrying them and stop putting them in bloody handbags! Dogs need boundaries and positive reinforcement. Something your average chavvy Joe isn't able to bestow on his own kids let alone a bull terrier. That's why we get incidents. Brain dead owners. TomBustler1884
I've got a terrier, best dog inside, unpredictable disaster outside. Great with people, but is not good with other dogs due to being attacked, never walked and never socialised by previous owners.

Fair point. If an idiot has a dog there's a fair chance the dog won't be properly looked after/trained etc. As you say if they can't look after themselves or kids, what chance has a dog got. Pearl Ram
After losing both our mastiffs at a relatively early age we went down the rescue route, we now have a Labradoodle and a curious mixture of Jack Russell/Dachshund (sausage dog) . DerbyKnight
Three Boxers. 2 Reds and 1 Brindle (recently lost a white one, to old age). Mad as you like. Very active and bouncy (which can be off putting if you are wary of dogs) but they are only showing affection... However, don't show any aggression towards my children (or any family member come to that) else they will put you back in your place!!!

We lost her brother in the summer and we worried she might crumble but she rallied and is ruling the fookin house. She gets picked up and put on the sofa and our bed and helped off. Lies like a baby in the girls arms and follows me round the house like a, well like a bloody dog.
