STATS: Comparison to last season's averages

I just thought I'd look at a few of the numbers to see where we are statistically in comparison with last season and what numbers have been crunched so far.

Average posssession overall: This season (56.6%) last season (55.2%)

Average possession home: This season (55.9%) last season (58.8%)

Average possession away: This season (57.6%) last season (51.4%)

Pass success overall: This season (81%) last season (79.8%)

Pass success home: This season (81.8%) last season (81.6%)

Pass success away: This season (79.9%) last season (77.6%)

Short passes per game overall: This season (452) last season (398)

Short passes per game home: This season (446) last season (424)

Short passes per game away: This season (462) last season (371)

Long passes per game overall: This season (83) last season (68)

Long passes per game home: This season (81) last season (70)

Long passes per game away: This season (85) last season (66)

Shots per game overall: This season (13.4) last season (14.9)

Shots per game home: This season (13.3) last season (17)

Shots per game away: This season (13.5) last season (12.8)

Shots conceded per game overall: This season (13.8) last season (13)

Shots conceded per game home: This season (11.7) last season (10.5)

Shots conceded per game away: This season (17) last season (15.6)

A few interesting ones in there, well as interesting as they can be, which show perhaps we are not being as patient as we was last season.

Another thing I noticed, which is quite telling, the 'player positions' in comparison to last season shows we're typically playing more deeper than last season. Although, the structure looks similar.

Do you have a statistic which shows how much of your life you are wasting number-crunching?

It's a quick copy and paste in fairness, but since you asked, as my job involves working in statistics/analysis, as well as this copy and paste, I would care to bet roughly 7% of my day as been wasted on number crunching.

I think you need to do less number-crunching and have more ambition.

If I was to complain about this season then I'd say the play is slower, more deliberate and we're suffering for that. Occasionally we've gone hoofballing (Fulham for 20mins, Wednesday and Ipswich probably the longest spells)

It's got that look where all teams start of trying to play possession football (before abandoning it in search of results). It's slow and not all that productive. Even negative at times.

But that's if I was to complain. We've seen the odd glimpse. So long as the next 10 games or so show slight improvement over these opening 7 then by the time it comes towards the business time we hopefully be in full flow.

A bit of a push from Forsyth would help. The DM role is a bit awkward because none of the players that have played there seem to tick all the boxes.

Those stats are roughly what I'd expect.

Be alright

So to summarise we are better under McLaren than Clough?

Just thought I would save everyone 30 mins of their lives reading the OP.

I would have at least expected a like for like comparison based upon the teams we have played; substituting the promoted/relegated with like wise teams.

otherwise a sterling effort but just not albert ;-)

I think we're bollocksed.

The car looks the same but it's not starting properly, not running properly, and its not going to get us to where we want to be.

Send for Ed China.
