Just because a free kick is direct, it doesn't mean we have to have a direct attempt on goal. Let's show a bit more imagination, Sammon was stood at the side of the wall for the free kick taken by Ward late on, so why couldn't the ball have been rolled in to him. I'm not saying this is the only solution but surely we can work on some more imaginative free kicks rather than seeing the ball wasted during the final minutes of a game.

Wards imagination when running at defences is not in question here, I just wish he could apply that to free kicks.

Another gripe is our lack of ability to take throw-ins in such a way as to at least give the recipient of the ball a reasonable chance. We seem to throw at chest hieght requiring the ball to be brought down and controlled before it can be distributed and consequently that player is put under pressure for no reason. Quite often the result is negative play from good positions, or worse still we lose the ball and the opposition break quickly.

Ive not posted in a long while but feel compelled to due to my increasing frustration on both free kicks and throw-ins. That being said, we wouldn't be Derby fans if we didn't have something to moan about.

In swingers with a bit of pace. Floated corners just don't work. Ward taking corners excites me like sammon taking penalties.

Forsyth/hughes/Russell on one side. Bryson/Martin from the other.

As for freekicks, ward seems pretty pointless. Hughes always hits the target but rarely with enough power.

I would like to see Martin given a go.

The best corner/free-kick takers we have currently are Bavies, Jacobs and Coutts. None of them are in the team though :(

And none of them seem to be THAT good - just the best we have.

It is a shame that we have Martin who is so good at winning free kicks in those danger areas and the best we can manage is Jamie Ward blasting them at the wall and hoping for a lucky ricochet
