Always linked with a bl***y good player but with our history of getting them I'll put money on him signing for someone else and we get a young premiership winger instead wouldn't at all surprise me

prove me wrong Nigel sign this guy up! If you want top six then burke out wide right might just help that little bit more.

Didn't turn us down, never made a bid, same as Dunne we just sat back and hoped they would turn up for a medical one day

BIRMINGHAM City’s decision to take up a one-year option on Chris Burke’s contract is likely to end Derby County’s interest in the player.

Burke’s contract was due to expire this summer and Derby have been closely monitoring the Scottish international’s situation at St Andrew’s.

Derby’s interest would have increased had Birmingham allowed the 29-year-old midfielder’s deal to run out, making him available on a free transfer.

Birmingham boss Lee Clark is delighted to have secured Burke until 2014.

“It was always my intention to keep him,” said Clark.

“It is brilliant in terms of the backing the board have given us, because a player of Chris’s character doesn’t come cheap. They’ve backed my judgement on that and I thank them for that.

“Chris is a steady character and a steady personality, and he will be a massive player for us next year.”

Burke has scored 22 goals in 105 appearances since he signed from Cardiff City two years ago.

Meanwhile, Derby are on course to sign their former keeper Lee Grant from Burnley.

Few more comments from Clough on Sky Sports -

"Chris is one we have talked about, certainly," said Clough.

"But it depends on player availability and all sorts of other things. We have already made some enquiries this week so we have a couple of people thinking about things and a couple of clubs have said they want to hang on and see what happens.

I don't understand nigel. He said he was happy with the squad. Now theres a "search for a right midfielder". Since when if he is happy? If he wanted Burke, why not go for him sooner. It is possible to sign players on loan in the transfer window, does he not realise this?

"very rarely in the loan market do you go for your number one target "

Why is there even a number one target. He was happy with the squad 2 weeks ago. Clueless.

I thought I better read through to make sure nobody had been a cnut already. I was sooo desperate to get in there.

Well played sir.

Mine was gonna be "what about his foot"

Sorry North Stand.

I always have to check first before being a cnut! no-one likes sloppy seconds on a gag.
