That game was four days after the Battle of the Baseball Ground when Franny Lee disgracefully assaulted poor Norman Hunter's fist with his face.

I believe Franny was suspended for this 2nd leg match :-( "Penalty" was 7 mins from the end otherwise we would have gone through.

Yes - the rules at the time were that if you were suspended for a domestic game, then you were suspended for both European games and internationals too.

Where would we be if we had won this match? This would have been one of the biggest scalps of the 1970s era.

 

Ok, the answer is probably exactly where we are now, and football is full of "what ifs". But as "what ifs" go...
