Shaun Williams

DERBY COUNTY are keen on Shaun Williams — but may have to wait until the summer to make their move.

Versatile ace Williams has caught the eye with some impressive performances for MK Dons in League One.

Derby boss Nigel Clough is among his admirers and would like to bring him to Pride Park next month.

But Dons want 750,000 for the Malahide man which is likely to put him beyond Clough’s budget. Dons are aware they face losing him for nothing in the summer when his contract expires but are reluctant to sell now.

Currently in sixth place — and just two points off the second automatic promotion spot — boss Karl Robinson does not want to lose a key player as they look to reach the Championship.

Robinson will sell only if a deal provides him with the funds to strengthen his squad for the run-in. Williams joined the Milton Keynes outfit in March 2011 after Sporting Fingal folded but was ineligible to play until the following season.

Williams started out at Drogheda United but was not a regular, gaining most of his first-team experience during loan spells with Dundalk and Finn Harps before joining Fingal before the 2009 season.

The 26-year-old also won the PFAI Young Player of the Year for 2010.

If Coventry are struggling to pay the rent on the ground can't see them having the money to buy James Bailey

Also why is £750k out of reach for Nigel's budget? Judging by the price for Keogh and Sammon I would say he is not outside the budget

Nige is very prudent. Can't see him paying 750k for someone, when in 6 months he can get him on a free.

from the reports ive read they have the money for the rent but stopped paying to force it to be renegotiated to a lower price

'Despite being known for an attacking midfielder, he has played as a centre half for MK Dons due to injuries and a small squad, in this unusual role he has been a star playing receiving the Football Writers MK Dons player of the year award for his efforts.'

Could maybe be a bit creative, in the chance that Hughes leaves and he needs replacing?

£10 million for Hughes, and a replacement that can play at this level for £750,000 would make the board very happy indeed!

Hopefully they give us money for a decent striker!

This is SISU we are talking about - the hedge-fund operating parasites who we nearly ended up with. They would re-negotiate their own grandmothers if it meant them saving on the cost of a teapot. Nothing they say or do should ever be taken for granted.

Keogh was the Shackell money, Sammon was the Davies money.
