  1. Not actually a bad shout. Removing the bias of him being here as a kid, it's the type of loan we should be looking at anyway in this league.

    Paul Warne

Of course, I've said on another thread something like 12-17th would be a good result. But as far as recruitment goes, no restrictions other than our own budget will be fascinating to see who we end up targeting to try and achieve the style of play he's spoken about.
  3. Shudder to think how much they pay Iheanacho.
  4. I'll wait for Oldben to post this before reading it, thanks.

    Paul Warne

Warne has always talked a pretty good game with regarding what he likes. Fast, athletic, pressing, front-foot etc etc. Aligns with what I'd to see too. He's always been hamstrung in delivering that with the players we've had at our disposal and those we could realistically get under restrictions. This is a major chance to see if he can actually put those ideas onto the pitch.
  6. 14 league goals with numerous penalties, don't go overboard. He won't be hitting double figures this season. There's nothing wrong with being a realist. Warne dropped him last season as he wasn't good, tried to replace him in the summer and failed. He performed above expectations, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't have been better had we managed to get a replacement. And it certainly doesn't mean he's somehow going to go and perform in the Championship at 33. Bit part muscle when we need to get stuck in is a perfectly fine role for him.
  7. Yeah, not sure why this is a surprise. There would be no need to have an early bird renewal phase otherwise.
  8. yup, I did. And he did better than expected. I’d have still preferred we had signed someone instead, like. Now you’re asking him to do it again at a higher standard? No ta.
  9. One of those you'd let him go on a free if you could find a taker for his wages.
  10. Nailed on it will be a relegated team or Leeds, and it'll be on TV.
  11. As long as we don't bumble into the season with him being 1st, or even 2nd, choice then we can live with that.
  12. Big problem we have, in order to compete with these teams, is finding cheap talent or academy prospects and getting the big money. Swansea and Blackburn, for example, sold Joel Piroe and Adam Wharton for over £30m combined. QPR, the other team you mentioned, haven't sold anyone for much value and have totaled £3-4m in a couple of seasons in sales and haven't paid money for anyone themselves since 21/22 season. The contrast is stark.
  13. They shouldn't. Don't know if that was a specific question to me or not.
  14. Sell who? The only player we have with value is Cashin! But no, other than us being competitive and not there to make up the numbers, we don’t know. And those statements don’t really tell you much either as that’s different to different people. It’s a fair ask though, do we think we will spend more than £1m on anyone? I’m dubious.
  15. apparently available for around £300k. Would hope we would be thinking about that.
  16. Blackburn are quoting people £15m for Szmodics so not sure where you’ve read £4m. It’s nonsense like, he’s 29, they ain’t getting £15m.
  17. I just don't understand what you can possibly have watched to think Hourihane would be good enough for another League 1 season, let alone a Championship one. We wouldn't get the ball back to be able to keep it with him in midfield!
  18. Curtis Nelson: 10 Callum Elder: 4 Joe Ward: 6 Sonny Bradley: 4 Josh Vickers: 6 Kane Wilson: 8 Martyn Waghorn: 4 Conor Washington: 5 Tyrese Fornah: 6 Elliot Embleton: 1 Ryan Nyambe: 8 Tyreece John-Jules: 5 Winter: Ebou Adams: 10 Dwight Gayle: 7 Corey Blackett-Taylor: 6 Max Bird*: 7 Extensions: Nathaniel Mendez-Laing: 9 Eiran Cashin: 10 Jake Rooney: 8
  19. It’s already done. FWIW, I think he showed flashes but clearly struggled for fitness and to seemingly get involved in a tight knit squad. Think pre-season will be huge for him and allow Warne to work on his defensive game to enable him to be trusted a bit more. He will be an asset next year, I’ve seen enough to believe that.
  20. The coffee cup game was better than the 5-0 for me. Dont know whether it was jus the expectations at the time or my age, but I’ve always loved that. Southampton play off semi. Pitch invasion in torrential rain. Epic that was.
  21. Matlock probably the first one, then I imagine we will go abroad again. Maybe even to the same place as it clearly worked last year. Chesterfield again would be fine too with them getting promoted. Maybe Wolves or Villa if we are going premier league at home.
  22. Think Warne will be targeting 22-28 primarily. This guy will be 30 before the new season. Now whilst that isn't over the hill necessarily, I can't see us signing many the wrong side of 30.
  23. I wouldn't feel comfortable with Bradley starting games. He has his use, mainly attacking set pieces. But he's slow as hell, tentative and his first thought is to wrestle. He apparently played well away at Cambridge but I didn't watch that game. From the games I've watched, he's done well when we've not been asked to defend which isn't exactly a good measuring stick.
