More and more I’m beginning to think we can improve on Bird. More from a perspective of assists and goals and breaking into the box which for me is not his game. Depends on whether Warne wants to play more of a 4-4-2 or a 4-1-4-1/4-2-3-1 with Bird being a number ten, as he’s not a number 10. Just seeing a number of potential targets on here being mentioned and we could get two of them for a million each and sell bird for two million.

Do the top four play in the Premier League as Scott Williams will be a whipping boy. It was just a freak result when he beat an out of sorts MVG. Littler v Humphries means the best two in this tournament are in the final.

Also - in football transfers, very rarely does much of it get paid up front. If we sell for £4 million, I’d be shocked if we got more than £2 million up front. That means we have less to play with ourselves to try and entice transfers to us. Simply - he’s the most important player we have. Do not sell if we want to finish top two.

Caught up on the thread, my only piece to add is that the Derby fans were excellent tonight. Even at 2-0 down, the support for the team was outstanding. Dont tell me that doesn't make a 1 to 2% difference to the players on the pitch.

Anyone know the rule that if we have NOT yet activated his extension, can he sign elsewhere on a pre-contract on the 1st Jan? Surely therefore we must have protected our assets and therefore already triggered the extension?

Extend his one year deal which appears to be in OUR control - he will be worth £3m in the summer if we are in League One still. He will be worth £4m if we are in the Championship. I see zero point in letting him go in January, absolutely zero point. Someone tell me why we should? The only way I can think we have not activated it yet is because we are discussing longer terms with him. He could be countering this with a get out clause and more money etc

Can't knock that. First half the football was the best all season. Second half went as the game expected - they tried but couldn't get in. Very happy today.
