FlyBritishMidland reacted to Comrade 86 in The Administration Thread
Bless you. Nice glass of dry white or two might prove a pleasant aid to sleep. I've cracked a bottle of Macallan I've been saving and have just messaged my business partner to tell him not to expect to see for a day or two. He's American and was warned this might be the case if his compatriot got this deal to the line ?
As for the doom-merchants, suspect they'll be rather less chippy moving forwards, unless of course it all goes horribly wrong, in which case they'll flood back in to tell us they knew it would all along. Unlikely now though and based on the last 72 hours, there's going to be a good few stuck on ignore lists, I reckon. There'll be tough times ahead as we stabilise and build for the future and we want the type of fans whose faith and support is unshakeable right now, not the whiny 'I told you so's' who bring nothing but mealy-mouthed misery to the table and have shown CK little to no faith at all.
Ah well, it sounds like everything should be fully sorted by this time nest week and that's music to my ears. All the other BS can go firmly on the back-burner.

Now know how my poor parents felt when we called them in the middle of the night to tell they were grandparents for the first time! Never going to sleep.
And all the negative doom-merchants on here just go and do one for a bit can you

It’s not good to gloat But given how Gibbo extended our agony and how their fans denied that undeniable fact, it seems right to point out how happy we are and how grumpy the Boro lot will be all summer.
I’m savouring the moment.

Blimey, was about to go to bed but might have another beer now. Especially as I’ve got a day off tomorrow ?.
Seriously though, that’s great news. No way would he have exchanged contracts if a deal for PP wasn’t pretty much in the bag.

Come on. Let yourself just be a little bit excited.
Cross bridges when you get to them.
Life is tough enough, you have to enjoy the little joyous times when they happen ?

But CK has stated with certainty he’ll start to fund. So MM must have agreed a deal in principle don’t you think ?

How many comments will we now get about "conditional on the sale of the stadium"?
Just let people enjoy this one for the time being. It's a ray of light that we haven't had over the past 9 months.

It was - clue was in Gary Neville ?.
He also got them relegated twice. They went up with a Premier League squad that needed little investment. On the surface he might support a manager but there’s little to no investment behind the scenes - recently Newcastle announced plans to upgrade/rebuild the facilities as they don’t meet PL standards. We praise our academy, and rightly so (the one area MM got right) but we won’t have that under MA. His business approach is max profit whilst keeping operating costs as low as possible.
But, like I said, I’d take him over no club. I just don’t think we’ll enjoy it.

I'm not sure why anyone would want Mike Ashley tbh, he proved at Newcastle that he's not there for the love of football or the fans - just cold hard cash to line his pockets.
'Under Ashley, this became a zombie club, an illusion of life.'

'Former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley spent less on infrastructure than any other Premier League club over the past decade - and less than a third of what the second-lowest spending club spent.'

To make money off us I assume he will run the academy down, let the stadium fall into disrepair and penny pinch wherever he can. He might get us into the Premiership but at what cost? He clearly doesn't give a hoot about saving us, just acquiring us for the lowest price possible and exploiting us to make as much as he can. Newcastle fans didn't protest his ownership for no good reason.
Hopefully Chris Kirchner will get the deal done, all misty-eyed backing Rooney and investing in the academy as promised. Football is all about hopes and dreams, I might be in a minority but I'd rather take the slow road back feeling connected to my club than line the pockets of Ashley and experience soulless matchdays.

Crikey, I don’t think MA would stoop that low. But, if it falls though with CK I can see him giving MM the full amount for PP and as low as he thinks he can get away with for the club, which will mean -15 points next season.

Anyone who wants MA should be listening to Gary Neville after the Newcastle v Arsenal game - “Mike Ashley stunk this place out”.
The administrators have a fine line to tread - if they think there’s a real chance it’ll get done with CK then keep going. Otherwise, move on. While MA is far from ideal it’s better than no club.
Ultimately, it MM’s mess. He put us here, he’s stopping us from moving on.

Well said. MM ultimately is the one who making this such a mess and holding up a deal.
I still think we need to think about a ground share somewhere local to reduce the bargaining power Mel has. That way he has a football ground which has no use...
