I'm someone who would have got it big time wrong if I had been in Clowes shoes. After the Shrewsbury game I was openly calling for Warne to be gone, felt like he had lost the dressing room and was totally lost with a bunch of summer recruits that looked like they'd been drawn out of a tombola. I still don't quite understand what changed, really, but it sure has clicked. And that is why you should never listen to me, or pretty much anyone else who posts on forums. We haven't got a clue what we're on about.

If a little tarnished by the knoweldge that he is (maybe was) a complete twonk of a bloke on set and in real life. I don't wish him ill but still.

Key themes that I find helpful: 1: I have no interest (or belief I am able) to change other people's point of view about anything - from football to anything else posted here or elsewhere on t'web. 2: If I don't agree with what people say, that's fine. Least of all random profiles on a random forum. 3: If I am going to get stressed about some poster's view of a football match (that I don't even know they've actually seen) I probably need a lie down. I wouldn't say there is advnce as such because, as others have suggested, you will need to be a different person at every stage. But I would say two things. First is that it goes so quickly, savour every single moment - even the tough ones. And second, when one stage is gone it is gone. As someone once said to me, there will be a day when you pick up your child and carry them in your arms for the last time. On the day that happens neither you nor they will know it will be the last time, but it will, and it will then be gone forever. So cherish it now.

Barmy decision, not only because Cooper has taken Forest from a ploddingly normal Championship team to one that isn't even among the favourites for relegation. Santo has flopped at his last two roles, the last one being hardly in the cauldron of top level football. And, even all of that in hand, if you didn't have faith in your manager why did you give him quarter of a billion pounds to build a team. How much do you think Santo will now be asking for again? It's just another dopey owner without a long term plan that likely will end with the club burdened with debt - we know better than most how this ends.

All I could see when reading this was Oh Barker, now she was the consumate professional, but if she walked into my pub and said "do you want to go home or away" I'd have to say "Barker, no!"

Not sure calling cuts to public services (which the Beeb effectively is, for reasons you state) sits inside the definition of a 'woke' excuse. But hey, we blame the invisible enemy for everything else so why not? My view on the Beeb, for what it's worth, is you know they get it about bang on when both the right and the left complain (which they do).

I went out with a girl when I was sixteen and we agreed at the time we wouldn't watch ET (it was released that year) due to the endless media kerfuffle about it all. Couple of years ago we bumped into each other at a mutual friend's do (some forty years later). Neither of us has ever seen ET - it seems love dies but stubborn intransigence is forever....

The Never Ending Story - I was daunted by the prospect

While I don't have some sort of ingrained hatred of Forest (I was of the generation that saw them at their best and it's hard to be too much of a hater of seeing what Sir Brian did with them). But I do think it's verging on madness to see how close to the brink they now are - everything and above is dependent on them surviving in the top flight, the moment that stops (and it probably won't be this season but it will be some time in the next three or four) they are utterly hosed as a club. Genuinely, it's sad to see but they have gone down the road that has been trod so many times before and they are beyond the point of no return. To think they laughed at us signing Bradley Johnson!

Friend of mine is a Chelsea fan so posted this, but interesting to see that Forest have spent more than Liverpool since May 2022.

Hard to see Billam Smith doing much in this division unless he starts moving his head. He was getting picked off at will by Masternak and you'd think McGuigan will have plenty to work on if he doesn't want to see his guy stopped by Riakporhe or the like.

Don't Worry Darling: with Harry Styles, Chris Pine and a couple more familar faces (Jonah from Veep for example). It's a bit of a cross between Edward Scissorhands, The Devil's Advocate, Mad Men and one other film that if I tell you what it is will spoil the plot. First twenty minutes is intriguing and, to be fair, almost keeps the pace up. The 'twist' is pretty darned obvious by the time you get there and there are a couple of holes in how the final scenes play out. But it's worth it, the soundtrack is probably the highlight. As a songwriter, pure and simple, I'd argue he's up there with Paul Simon, John Lennon and Bob Marley as someone who has a pantheon of songs that will be sung long after anyone reading this will have passed also. As a person he was a bit of an enigma, much about him was quite unlikeable but that is somehow the curse of the genius and the joy he has brought to so many was his gift.
