  1. The London NY fireworks once more were a cacophony of disorganized chaos. Just a wall of "more is more" with almost zero coordination or overall purpose. The drones were better, till they started blowing Corona virus all over the place.
  2. They didn't mention Hooky once and give a very light reference to her romantic life full stop. They also don't mention that she had a big fall out with Craig Cash and that's why he went off and did Early Doors. To be fair, it's a celebration of her comedy as opposed to being a critique of her life - there's enough in there to have you realize she was quite manic but it isn't really the place to go exposing her darker side (of which there was one, no doubt).
  3. Enjoyed "Caroline Aherne - Queen Of Comedy". In parts a carbon copy of every other documentary about anyone in the range of the media in the 1990s but, besides that, showed what a wonderful (if also flawed) woman she was. Missed out some big chunks (e g. her marriage to Hooky) but still a good watch.
  4. Inoue looked very impressive, at that weight to knock out a pretty tough opponent through their gloves shws the power he carries. Tapales was no slouch but Inoue really is a bit special.
  5. If that fight gets made it wouldn't go two rounds. Tad unfair on Arthur, I agree he was largely in survival mode but only because he worked out early there was nothing he could do. Bivol was just a class above.
  6. Err, I missed that bit of the coverage - thank God....
  7. 2023/24: Sheff Utd currently on 9 points, Burnley on 11 points so technically could still equal it 2022/23: 26th December (Wolves) 2021/22: 23rd January (Burnley) 2020/21: 4th March (Sheffield United) 2019/20: 22nd December (Watford) 2018/19: 27th February (Huddersfield) 2017/18: 13th December (Swansea) 2016/17: 19th December (Sunderland) 2015/16: 18th January (Aston Villa) 2014/15: 29th December (Leicester) 2013/14: 26th December (Sunderland) 2012/13: 2nd January (QPR) 2011/12: 31st December (Blackburn) 2010/11: 27th November (Wolves and West Ham) 2009/10: 19th December (Portsmouth) 2008/9: 8th November (Spurs)
  8. He did, but it was based on knowing that Wilder simply doesn't have the footwork to deal with it. Any competent boxer would work out he was head down and either step to the right and side swipe him or uppercut him coming in. Amazing to see the impact the corners had last night, Andy Lee talked a masterclass between the rounds while Wilder was left deluded that he was somehow in control. As for AJs next dance partner, Zhang is well placed to be interesting enough but gassy enough to suggest he won't be a twelve round threat. After last night Kabayel might be an option but isn't really a threat. Then he has to hope Usyk beats Fury and Tyson realises the only payday still in town is the AJ fight. If Usyk does as he promises and retire to play football after the Fury fight then that could end up being for the vacant titles. Coz boxing never lets us down does it? As for Miller - I thought it was beyond comical that they apologized for his language. Anyone tuning in to watch a 300lb guy whack lumps out of his opponent is hardly going to be offended by the occasional f-bomb.
  9. The most amusing element of the whole Wilder debacle was that he wanted to be known by his new nickname - Dr Sleep. Yup, that one will stick.
  10. WIlder's corner were unbelievable, they never once pushed on their fighter when he was clearly losing round after round. Weird post fight interview from Wilder, I think I preferred him when he was blaming everything from the weight of his ring walk costume to the phase of the moon.
  11. Always been a much better writer than summariser - probably benefits from having an editor stripping out all the attempts to over ride his boxing knowledge with those faux contraversial "let's tell it as it is, and I don't care what others think" followed by something like "soft boiled eggs are nicer than hard boiled ones"
  12. Blimey, that was some shot from Opiteia. If that isn't knockout of the night we're in for some fun.
  13. I'm someone who would have got it big time wrong if I had been in Clowes shoes. After the Shrewsbury game I was openly calling for Warne to be gone, felt like he had lost the dressing room and was totally lost with a bunch of summer recruits that looked like they'd been drawn out of a tombola. I still don't quite understand what changed, really, but it sure has clicked. And that is why you should never listen to me, or pretty much anyone else who posts on forums. We haven't got a clue what we're on about.
  14. If a little tarnished by the knoweldge that he is (maybe was) a complete twonk of a bloke on set and in real life. I don't wish him ill but still.
  15. Key themes that I find helpful: 1: I have no interest (or belief I am able) to change other people's point of view about anything - from football to anything else posted here or elsewhere on t'web. 2: If I don't agree with what people say, that's fine. Least of all random profiles on a random forum. 3: If I am going to get stressed about some poster's view of a football match (that I don't even know they've actually seen) I probably need a lie down. Merry Christmas y'all...
  16. Who have Oxford City for in Boxing Day? https://x.com/The_Forty_Four/status/1738508145389904078
  17. Someone's had a glass of Snowball
  18. I wouldn't say there is advnce as such because, as others have suggested, you will need to be a different person at every stage. But I would say two things. First is that it goes so quickly, savour every single moment - even the tough ones. And second, when one stage is gone it is gone. As someone once said to me, there will be a day when you pick up your child and carry them in your arms for the last time. On the day that happens neither you nor they will know it will be the last time, but it will, and it will then be gone forever. So cherish it now.
  19. You could have just left her to feed the baby in peace?
  20. Barmy decision, not only because Cooper has taken Forest from a ploddingly normal Championship team to one that isn't even among the favourites for relegation. Santo has flopped at his last two roles, the last one being hardly in the cauldron of top level football. And, even all of that in hand, if you didn't have faith in your manager why did you give him quarter of a billion pounds to build a team. How much do you think Santo will now be asking for again? It's just another dopey owner without a long term plan that likely will end with the club burdened with debt - we know better than most how this ends.

All I could see when reading this was Oh Barker, now she was the consumate professional, but if she walked into my pub and said "do you want to go home or away" I'd have to say "Barker, no!"

Not sure calling cuts to public services (which the Beeb effectively is, for reasons you state) sits inside the definition of a 'woke' excuse. But hey, we blame the invisible enemy for everything else so why not? My view on the Beeb, for what it's worth, is you know they get it about bang on when both the right and the left complain (which they do).
  23. Mate of mine is a good friend of John Eustace - I can tell you with assurance he was close to getting that gig and wanted it (Eustace, not my mate)
  24. She was a nice girl if you don't mind - which also likely explains why she stayed out of contact with me for 40 years.
  25. I went out with a girl when I was sixteen and we agreed at the time we wouldn't watch ET (it was released that year) due to the endless media kerfuffle about it all. Couple of years ago we bumped into each other at a mutual friend's do (some forty years later). Neither of us has ever seen ET - it seems love dies but stubborn intransigence is forever....
