With the amount of repeated mistakes we've had this season it feels like we're not even watching the games back. We've tried lumping it long to 3 different strikers this season and I can't think of a single game where it has been effective. Yet teams that play that style against us like today always seem to find space with strikers that are usually no bigger than Collins or no quicker than Washington. It feels as a squad we've regressed in technical ability which begs the question what on earth are they doing in training. Either I'm overrating the ability of these players or there's something seriously wrong with how they're being coached.

They're not completely blameless but it feels to me that they're being asked to play a style and system that they're simply not equipped to play. The midfield is a perfect example of this, we have a tremendous amount of experience and talent in that area yet they look completely lost positionally and are being overrun by lower league journeymen every single week. Rewind a year ago with Rosenior and teams couldn't get the ball off the same players for more than 10 minutes a game. That's the fault of the manager.

This logic doesn't seem to apply to Pompey and Oxford this season, nor did it apply to Plymouth and Ipswich last year.

And that’s the only addition I was adding to the conversation. Warne is at fault for plenty, and the players are at fault for some bits.

I don’t disagree. Was just airing an opinion that I don’t absolve the players completely of blame. Collectively they need to do better, and if they don’t it’ll be Warne that pays the price, as is the way.

Then who's at fault, The manager? or the other players?, There's something not right at DCFC, I keep reading on here that we have a squad on paper that should at least be top 2, I follow the games on here when I'm at home, There's posters who have a very good knowledge of the game that keep saying the formation is wrong, Player A, B and C are playing out of position, That we have bought aging players on supposedly very good wages, Or players that were injured/injury prone before we signed them...Washington and Bradley come to mind, That we seem to have a terrible injury record.
I'm on the outside looking in, And what I have read since the beginning of the season is...that PWs formation/substitutions are not what the posters accept for a club "our size" also I notice those that were fully behind PW have either thrown the towel in or are close to calling for his head.
I was a fully paid up member of the PW fan club when he arrived, Some weren't, Around Xmas time until the end of March injury stopped me from going, Once fit...ish I started going again but the football got worse, I missed the last 4 home games(ST holder)as I couldn't be arsed, There has either got to be a huge shift in players attitude/performance for the better or David Clowes is going to find that Pride Park isn't a nice place to be...and if that happens there's only 1 outcome...a P45 irrespective of the cost...imo.

Yeah - I also watched them pass it through us with regularity before our quality shone through and I saw them achieve 100+ points last year only losing out to multi million pound backed Wrexham.

In the first half a good chunk of our admittedly limited forward play came from Collins interchanging with Bird and a few others around him. The problem today wasn't Collins miscontrolling the ball, it was the absence of any shape and play in midfield other than a few brief moments. If any manager can improve the structure of the team we'll immediately look better, it's far too chaotic at the moment.

This is what worries me the most at the moment. Currently Wildsmith, Cashin, Fozzy, Nyambe, Bird, Thompson, Robinson, Sibley, Hourihane, Smith, Barkhuizen, NML, Collins and Waggy are all out of contract at the end of the season. A good chunk of those will likely have offers elsewhere from clubs that will be above 11th in League One. Any progress we make this season, which so far is looking minimal, will immediately be wiped and we'll be starting fresh again. Based on what Warne has dished up so far I do not trust him with that rebuild and if we get that one wrong, we might be down here for a few years.

Totally agree. I've seen dogs chasing squirrels in the park with better shape than we have in midfield.

I don't disagree with you. Should be set up differently but we never are.
Just makes the opposition defenders look great as they head out all the high crosses. Pointless. Just like Derby.
But we keep doing it. Are we not learning?

He does but I still find it hard to criticise him in games like this when he's given zero support from the midfield and just hopeful crosses. I always think back to the Oxford game this season where he spent a good 70/80 minutes trying to win blind hoofballs against that 6'5 giant at the back. It feels to me that the way we're setup to bypass the midfield just gives him a nearly impossible task every game.
