  1. Another club who rolled the dice and got promoted, though. Much easier to care about FFP or P&S when you’re anticipating staying in the division the rules apply in.
  2. Don’t disagree overall (and don’t think we will sign him) but sure I read last night he has a clause that means his wage goes up after 15 appearances hence not playing. Probably needs to sack his agent for negotiating that into a contract with Reading.
  3. I imagine as a club we’re by no means unique in this but I find it striking the number of instances of this or similar in relatively recent history. Jakobsen seems to have been an error, Elsnik and Ravas maybe but hard to judge the level. Then you have nearly stories like this one - plus I think I’ve read similar with Ebosele and Archie Brown? I suppose it shows how hard it is to judge players. Mindless speculation obviously but part of me wonders a little if Wassall’s departure was related to this sort of thing.
  4. I think it depends if his underlying point is that incompetent people shouldn’t be pundits, or women shouldn’t be pundits. Obviously there’s no issue with the first one, but it seems to be more the latter or at least that’s the way he’s gone with it. There’s bad female pundits but some really good ones, same with male. Is it “box ticking” if a female pundit is chosen to be on TV and they turn out to be really good at it?
  5. Don’t think Cashin is comfortable in a 3 at all
  6. Can you believe we spent £3m+ on Jack Marriott. Abysmal
  7. Rough start to the second half for the ref
  8. I thought similar the other day during the Peterborough game. Their entire midfield 3 cost probably roughly what we’d want for Bird. Usual caveats obviously, only one game, different roles in teams etc but all 3 were excellent. Selling Bird doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Historically we are poor buyers though so would depend what we did after. Not a criticism of Bird really, he’s a very good footballer - for example I think if you put him in the Peterborough midfield with the way they play he’d look great. But rightly or wrongly we don’t play like that and I think if Paul Warne was building his ideal prototype midfielder it wouldn’t be anything like Max Bird.
  9. I hope your expensive lawyer can come up with a better excuse than “we don’t know how calendars work”
  10. Peterborough’s captain recalled by Rotherham today.
  11. Shame you didn’t bother to read the rest of it. It wasn’t a very long post really.
  12. Good player who if we’re honest probably needs to be playing in the Championship for his own good as he’s stagnated. I don’t think he is helped by the role he plays, which isn’t a dig at Warne before anyone starts. But I think he looks worse now than playing in an average team in the league above when he was 18. He should be the man controlling games for us in my opinion.
  13. Player who won us the equivalent game last season still sat on the bench with 15 minutes to go.
  14. Not to go all xG on you but think any sensible team will need a bit more evidence the type of goals he scores are sustainable before they drop any serious money on him. It is pretty depressing though that you have the likes of him, Ebosele and Brown making serious waves and from reading articles or seeing what went on at the time, all were not rated at certain points by academy and/or first team staff.
  15. Why are they still tweeting about the play off final. Was over 18 months ago for goodness sake.
  16. His Wolves team were probably the most boring that have been in the Premier League for the last 10 years. The big Greek cannot help himself, it’s great.
  17. Sorry but why is the bar here that he is the worst of the three academy players, when the other two are our best two players full stop? The obvious point is just like last season he is given a game in midfield, does well and yet is hooked in the following game (when he was no worse than at least half the team anyway), and will almost certainly not start in the coming game as we revert to a pretty defensive midfield 3. He is not even allowed a bad half before he is dropped. Different position but take NML as an example of the flip side - he was terrible for the first two months of the season, played through it and is now our most dangerous attacking player by a distance and maybe the form player in the league. I think I like Hourihane more than most and think he still offers a fair bit but he was awful first half on Saturday and remains completely undroppable.
  18. Hourihane's yellow was a 50/50. One player rolled around (then got up with minimal treatment), one player didn’t. If Hourihane rolled around and theirs didn’t, theirs would’ve got a yellow. I feared the worst as I always do when players charge straight over. Their captain is very good at it (also tried to get Sibley sent off when they weren’t even in the same postcode). He was the same v Shrewsbury last year. In the first half it felt like if a Wycombe player had tried to sell her an out of date turkey she’d have bought it. Edit: should say I do think she did well to regain her composure wrt the Hourihane incident. Dont agree with the decision but she took her time when it looked like she was reaching for her back pocket quite quickly
  19. 30 seconds earlier he was trying to get Ward sent off. He doesn’t give two hoots about Derby. No issues with that but I wish he wouldn’t carry on with this act every year.
  20. No issues with the penalty on seeing it live but thought the game was managed absolutely terribly from a refereeing point of view. Sibley and NML yellows just nonsense which set the stall out meaning she had to book Vokes later on when I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have even heard her whistle. It is easy to say the big decisions were right but the little decisions being wrong has far more of an effect on how the game plays out. I remember back when we were in the Championship and you got a Prem ref for the day the difference in quality was noticeable.
