    Similar story here (kinda)
Re. my earlier point Politicians and the media have a responsibility to get the numbers correct - things have been scary enough over the past two years without inflating the numbers.  Either that or we should all stop watching the news!

And that's a reasonable guess Eddie, similar to my point. But this kind of frustration stems from the belief that the vaccine strategy is effective, the only behaviour that matters and the expectation that everybody should just do the right thing. The vaccination rates are higher than the initial targets too, but we can't be satisfied with that?
Nurses have always been under pressure and the wards have always has significant numbers of people who don't do what they should healthwise. OK at present this has been highlighted.
The comment is of course designed to prove a double standard, it doesn't. You can take covid seriously, look after your health in other ways, respect some aspects of medical healthcare and still be unvaccinated.  The comparison between a healthy person not choosing a vaccine that they are suspicious of vs. Then being treated when seriously ill is facile and not informative.
I suppose I am just sad and frustrated that at times we are being triggered into conflict and tribalism over this issue.
As you say, the comment may even be made up and if so I've been foolish to get caught by the bait.
This thread is important though and I've found it helpful to follow people's thoughts because I just don't see or hear enough debate which has worried me.

But yeah I would agree that twitter isn't the best medium, unfortunately its one of the most popular and if you're a freelance data analyst looking for work, its free advertising.

So what is the motivation to make the 'ironic' comment? Likelynto be resentment. Now of course, if you are over-worked,stressed and maybe even traumatised, you are in a threat focused mental state and will blame others. I have no difficulty empathising with that, however as a professional clinician it would help to be mindful of this.   furthermore, having worked in the NHS, I appreciate that mis-management and underfunding of services are a major issue. Maybe my issue should more be with the people who share this kind of comment. It comes across as smugly enjoying the suffering of the patient, to score a point. Not pleasant.
None of us should be so arrogant as assume we are so sure about what is the right course of action. There are major ethical dilemmas here and all some of us want is to promote critical analysis in the face of a dominant view that claims to know best.

Agreed, also, the policy of dissuading people to seek treatment until very breathless was wrong.  Early treatment should have been given greater emphasis

I think its more to do with the fact that he is Welsh and the draconian restrictions they had imposed on them before Christmas - as he has mentioned in other comments.  The tweet simply points out that 90%+ of all omicron cases are in the vaccinated rather than focussing on which vaccinated (or unvaccinated) group is fairing better - hence 'time for a new plan'.
But keep pushing your narrative with the hyperbolic language, its probably working on someone.

Because you stated that he provided a false presentation of the data, whereas wha he actually did was add a note of caution ?
If you want to debunk the data, go ahead but lets not put words in the mouth of a guy that 'has won awards from the Royal Statistical Society and United Nations for the presentation of data.'  Sorry I meant charlatan ?

    He hasn't "just" stated facts.

    It's like giving a football report saying Derby won 12 corners to Coventry's 6 today. That's a fact .
But  you can't omit the rather more important fact that  from one of the corners Coventry  scored the only goal and knocked us out of the Cup. You can't just selectively quote stats  that suit your agenda and miss out the ones that don't.

If he posts something that is incorrect I'm sure there will be a number of people that will take glee in calling him out.
Meanwhile the misinformation coming from the Govt and media continues abound.

ONE part of my argument has been interpreting official data that the Govt puts out.  I happened to stumble across Jamie Jenkins who according to his twitter bio is an award winning analyst and previously Head of Health/Job stats at the ONS - so more than qualified to confirm what I had already concluded looking at the data.
Whilst he may not be privy to conversations that politicians, sage or whoever have, he is more than capable of interpreting the data.  For example, in the run up to Christmas we were repeatedly told that over 90% of people in ICU were unvaccinated.  This was false.  Even if the latest data had been marginally out of date re. what was actually happening inside hospitals, two weeks later it is still false.
I am fully capable of looking at all sides of an argument and reaching my own conclusions thanks ?  Understanding that the Govt and media regularly don't tell the truth about numbers sick in hospital to push a narrative is just one part of the broader issue, but it is quite possibly the biggest one when it comes to manipulating the general public to think a certain way.

So?  We're back to the equivalent of slagging off the host (Joe Rogan) because the guest is credible (Dr. Malone).
What has this even got to do with covid?  Maybe Jamie Jenkins can't get a gig on BBC cos they don't actually want to hear the facts.  All they seemed to want to do was push the 90% of people in ICU were unvaccinated before Christmas when it was around 40%.

So lets have a new Jamie Jenkins stat, cos I know you all like those...

Without passing comment on covid and its toll, perhaps if the Govt had simply funnelled £37bn into the NHS rather than track and trace and whatever other failed schemes they dreamed up we'd be in a far better position already.
