  1. Here's my take on the miss.

When the ball was cleared, Adams was on the Penalty spot. Perhaps there is a statistic out there that can back up this hunch of mine, but I would have thought there was less than a 1% chance he'd get on the end of that ball when he set off on his 97th minute sprint.

But he got there. And carried the ball to the edge of their box where the miss happened.

Fair enough, the miss in isolation was dreadful. But it wasn't handed to him on a plate, instead, he did what so few players would have done in that time to put himself in the position to make the miss.

This is not a dig at any other players at all, but he had 9 outfield team mates who started in roughly the same position as he did and who didn't sprint 100m to put themselves in a position to be laughed at by fans of other teams, calling it the miss of the century or whatever they're saying.

What's the moral of that story? Don't go that extra mile because it's safer to hang back?

    Of course not.

Legend for having the drive to try to win the unwinnable ball and coming away with it ahead of the keeper. And we can laugh about it because we won

Not every day, but regularly including match days……..

When I drive south down the M1 from Yorkshire just past Woodall services (I think) there is a Derbyshire sign marking the county boundary. Always blow it a kiss.

Because the M1 is now essentially 50mph from north Sheffield to Derby 😤 and they’re doing roadworks they’ve (temporarily I hope) removed the sign. Its been replaced by a big sign saying B4, marking the relevant contractors entrance into the roadworks area. The signs go up to B10 or some such. It’s a sign!

I blow a kiss at every "Welcome to Derbyshire" sign and thought I was the only weirdo who did it!

I'm going to show my mrs your post and say "I'm not the only one"

I think we'll lose this one. Not because I'm a doom and gloomer, but because I just think we need a few more weeks to find our feet.

Granted, we should have found them during pre-season to be honest but I'm willing to go with it for now

Some of our build-up play in isolation looks decent. If the lads aren't too downbeat after a few losses, I think we'll be alright.

Keep the faith, I'm expecting 0 points after first 3 games but a slight improvement in each game.

Then, beat Bristol and Cardiff and get a decent draw at Sheff United and have 7 points from opening 6. And I'd take it as a newly promoted team.

    Then kick on from there.

I hope I'm wrong and we start picking up points sooner, obviously

    I was wrong and I’m delighted I was 😂

What I predict with a high level of confidence is that when Paul Warne comes s hounded out the very same people will moan about his replacement with equal monotony.

    100%

It's rare you see someone make a statement, have someone respond to it, and then reply with "you know what, you're right" or "you know what, I see where you're coming from, but you're wrong" in a healthy way

It's why I don't reply to many posts I disagree with. Of course, I don't expect to change people's minds, but it would be nice to know they actually read my post. And I'd be happy to engage and find that althoguh we disagree on 80%, there's still some common ground

It's not something that's unique to this forum though. It's the way people are online these days. There's no politeness

It breaks up and the crack sounds it makes scare the badgers away… apparantly…

Don’t be offended but I didn’t believe you. I thought it was at the very least an odd joke and I didn’t get the punch line.

But I’ve just googled it and apparently, there’s a folklore that badgers will randomly bite an arm or leg and not let go until it’s had the satisfaction of hearing a bone snap.

So the cheeky swedes came up with putting crisp bread in their socks so that if a badger does come and have a go, they’ll mistake the sound of the ryveta breaking for a bone breaking.

utterly insane and hard to believe.

  7. I should have googled it before posting.

They were announced on 2nd August 2023  and the season started 5th August.

Going back 5 years, we also announced then on 2nd August, and the 2019/20 season also started on the 5th.

So in short, I've jumped the gun, created a thread without googling first and wasted everybody's time 😄

God knows why I thought it happened a week or more in advance

  8. Sorry if this ir brought up anywhere else (I did look but may have missed it) but does anyone else think it's a bit odd that the day before the season starts, squad numbers are yet to be announced?

From memory I'm sure this is normally done much sooner but I'm happy to be told I'm misremembering things!

And we never will be. Do you think any of our current team dreamed of playing for Derby County? Maybe Ben Osborn & that’s it, and he still spent 16 years at Forest first. Every single player would leave if a more attractive offer was put in front of them, that’s no different for players who haven’t even signed for us yet.

I don’t get why there is such a demand for players needing to fall in love with the team and have a burning desire to play for us above anybody else. As long as a player is fully committed and gives their all when they wear our shirt, then I couldn’t really care less if they took a couple of weeks to weigh up their options before signing.

Where is the magic in that? I don’t want to think I’m watching a bunch of blokes doing their job, even if it’s true.

If I imagine, even for a second, seeing Derby County as an employer of footballers who are only here because it’s a job, I feel my love of football evaporating.

It’s the most joyless thing I’ve ever allowed myself to imagine.

  10. I'd imagine both teams have similar aspirations this season and will see each other as a team from which to pick up points. Therefore I predict an entertaining game for the neutral where two teams give each other opportunities which probably won't be taken.

An entertaining 0-0 for me followed by a week of arguing amongst people who think it is a good point vs those tho think it is two points dropped

How's it looking on the ticket front guys and girls? Am I in with a shot at 10am tomorrow or is my tightness on the away membership going to bite me?

I forgot to say, for Blackburn 😄

This isn’t a moan at all. We’ve all loved the recent resurgence of ITKs after a number of years of hearing zilch.

But why are there so many genuine ITKs all of a sudden? Are there leaks at the club? Or were the previous regime more concerned with keeping deals secret, which meant less filtered out?

I have no doubts the Phil Foden England chant will get ripped off by us this season and Kenzo seems to be the most likely option.

I, for one, don't envisage the south stand whistling in harmony anyway.

The image in my head of the Southstand whistling as one has just made me do a little chuckle at work 😄

  14. I'm not confident they'll be giving us more tickets based on the wording on the website.

I really want to go but as a season ticket holder without away membership, 3,269 will likely easily sell before it gets to us.

Can't complain, serves me right for being too tight 😄

    Fingers crossed for additional tickets
