  1. Not been over-impressed by what I've seen of him, but then he's never really looked like a right back either.

Ward looks to be the right sided defender this season regardless of formation, and in a pinch then Smith or Rooney (and maybe even Bardell) are ahead of him for a back 4 slot, then for wing backs I assume PW would start NML or Barkz over any of them, so no need for him at all.

Not PWs signing, and will no doubt be released at the end of the season if he doesn't leave permanently in the next window.

  2. Did wonder on this and thought probably a matter of time before a link popped up. Surprised it's not claiming Knight swap deal.

Obviously did well for Ipswich last season and racked up 50+ games, scoring a decent amount.

Thing is though Ipswich aren't going to be content with just treading water, and unless they see Ladapo as a 20 goal championship striker they will be looking to keep improving that position.

Even at 30 I wonder if his value exceeds Knights?

Unless I've completely made it up, I think out of contract players still get paid by their old club in July if they don't get signed by another club?

Perhaps we have agreed signings training with us but they're delaying signing with us if they're getting a lower wage at Derby than at their old club? 🤷‍♂️

You are correct on the first point, I used to know some local non-league players when Albion were in the conference and it was definitely a factor for them.

Seems the ruling has now changed and  if a players move includes a salary drop then the former club must still pay the difference for that period. Imagine that still that means we're still chucking Davies a few quid a week through July.

Section six of the EFL’s rules and regulations says, “If such Player's application is successful he shall continue to receive from his Club as severance payment his weekly basic wage for a period of one month from the expiry date of his contract or until the Player signs for another Club, whichever period is the shorter, provided that where a Player signs for a Club within one month at a reduced basic wage then his old Club shall make up the shortfall in basic wage for the remainder of the month.”

  4. We have a problem with Warne/Collins. Warne wants someone in the box to lump the ball in to, Collins often ends up wide or deep and leaves no-one in the box. Neither will change far from that so it's not going to end well. Any offer for Collins we'll sell, otherwise he'll see the season out as an rotation/squad option before being released.

Personally I think Collins is prefectly able of hitting 20 (counting pens) in this league if he is largely first choice and gets an appropriate level of service, but would probably have to have someone alongside him to pick up the orthodox target man role.

  5. Warne did well with Smith and Ladapo up front, Rotherham just lacked the muscle to keep them at the club.

Ladapo had a decent record and was bought in for a moderate fee (about £500k), and Smith was picked up from Bury where his stays weren't great.

I think PW is taking his time to get it right and land a player (or 2) he can use as first choice for the next 3 years. I'd guess he wants something or someone specific and we are waiting for Bielik/Knight money to hit the bank so he can grab that, rather than settling for a freebie who may be square peg/round hole or just not as good.

I have no doubt if he wanted the frees mentioned, apart from someone who has specific geographical issues or has significantly better offers, eg a Blackburn rather than a Gillingham, then we'd have them. We are favourites for promotion, have the biggest abd best facilities in the division and I'd imagine the ability to match or better any offer on the table.

I hope he's a winger with them awful stats 👀

Plays mostly as a striker, occasionally as a left winger, and has also played as a 10 and right winger on rare appearances. If he chooses us then I'd imagine we're guaranteeing him a central role, I can't see him dropping down to be played out of position.

The link below says we have made an offer,

"It is suggested Blackburn and Derby – the Rams have made an offer – are now on red alert and hoping to be Harris’ new home."

    Nelson is 30-something.  Can’t tell.

33, easier to tell in the shot of him lying down.

Removed the ones gone entirely for clarity.

By the season end we also had a few youngsters 35 Bardell, 36 Hawkins, 37 Wheeldon and 41 Brown

Why put a RWB at CM and a CM at RB?

Because Smith did a really solid job at right back and still seems our best option there IMO.

Ward seems more of a right midfielder/winger and I wanted a back 4. Also a trio of Smith, Bird & H lack a bit of forward support for me.

All a work in progress anyway, this time next month maybe neither will be in.

  9. Without Knight and Bielik...

    Wildsmith

    Smith Nelson Cashin Elder

    Ward Bird Hourihane

    NML Sibley

    Collins

Fancy that slightly more than 3 at the back with what we have.

Highlights that we are currently pretty lopsided. I'd say we need an orthodox right back, another centre half, cover left back, left winger, CAM, and 2 x strikers. A lot of wheeling and dealing left to do in the next month or so, especially as we are needing 3-4 of pretty much best in our league attackers to look like a real automatic promotion contender.

  10. Interesting. On face value he's a player who's averaged 40 games a season for Posh over the past 5 years, and bar the championship has weighed in with goals and assists throughout.

Is he an orthodox wing back, I don't know, he seems more of a winger/right sided utility man, but that combined with his consistent availability on match days can't be a bad thing.

3 year contract though, that doesn't say back up to me. Will expect him to get a good number of starts this season.

Remember though that priority right now is very much rebuilding and getting out of this division, and this guy can be a useful component in that on paper.

Will reserve judgement until he's here and had a run of games as is only fair, but I'm hopeful he can kick on and perform for us.

Still think Wes Harding will likely come in and that will offer some flexibility around those defensive roles.

  11. I certainly don't begrudge him for taking the opportunity. With Notts just back in the league he has the chance to  help them establish themselves again.

He leaves after carrying the.team for parts of last season, and will always have cult status here, but as many have said players of his age are always a risk. Potential sudden drops in basic ability/fitness and susceptibility to injuries are always likely.

I think he could have made a decent impact again this year, whether that was as an integral part of the side or as a game changing sub, but there are others out there and it's now on the recruitment department to do what they are paid for as PW starts to shape his side.
