So the ones that I know of are JCH and Bobby Clark. Will Vaulkes I’ve personally not heard anything about. No new bid for Cashin yet but expect one tomorrow. Tomorrows either going to be super busy because Brighton have made a bid too good to turn down or pretty quiet with 1 potentially 2 coming in

Is this JCH thing actually serious? Not questioning you by all means because you seem to get a lot right but finding it a bit too good to be true! Clarke sounds like he could be good too!

Can’t see us going for JCH. Personally think Cashin will go with no loan back and Collins will go Shrewsbury.

Reckon we’ll get Humphrey’s and Smith plus 1 more.

Humphrey’s from Wigan? Have we been linked with him?

In a full season (3956 minutes), Hourihane got 5 assists from open play, in a free role allowing him to lurk around the edge of the box.
In a not quite full season (3580 minutes), Bird got 6 assists from open play, playing mostly in the deepest midfield role.

He never played a free role. A free role is a no.10 behind the striker?

point is he’s past it but still was our most efficient performer in midfield

You must have deliberately missed the post where I said we should sell or release someone before we sign a 2nd CM.

Hourihane take every set piece and still has fewer assists than Bird this season

In a full season Houihane got 7 goals and 7 assists. How many did bird get again 1 goal and 2 assists and Houihane is way past his best. Bird is over rated and doesn’t stand out in a poor league against sub standard opposition. Houihanes on his last legs and contributes more.

I forgot we didn't change our shape vs Fleetwood or add more pace to our defence. We still looked roped and were lucky not to concede at least 2 goals.

Go through every season since Bird has been in the first team and you'll notice our record every season with Bird playing is much better than without him. I made a post giving the exact point not too long ago but I guess you conveniently missed it. Out of our CMs, he's still our most creative, wins more in the air, and the best defensive contributor despite being given a more advanced role this season. The issue is with the two other CMs who leave our defence exposed in the current system.

Houihane adds more creative output hence higher goals and assists since he’s been here and he’s past it. Smiths past it too. You say there is an issue but you’re crying at the thought of signing 2 new ones! 🤣 I’m confused 🤷‍♂️

oh we was lucky in that one, hopefully our luck continues then.

league 1 is poor quality and does Bird really stand out amongst all the 💩 he doesn’t that’s mine and many others issue.

Some who rate him (no idea why and what on earth they see when watching!) will say this but the facts are there. With him, 3 in 4 losses with the only win being the Burton one (bottom in league)

First without a win. Let’s see how it plays out a while longer then.

Just like to add this bo//ocks theory from last season when he was out then. Everyone said it was because Bird was out. You can’t have it both ways. You could have said as if Bird in/out was the only factor 😜

    8 weeks = 14 games
Rest of season = 32+ games

    We have 2 options:
    1. Sign 1 player to be a starter, and utilise fringe players such as DRobinson and Radcliffe to fill in when required until Bird is fit
    2. Sign 2 players, not use fringe players and harm their development, AND limit game time for first teamers such as Thompson and Sibley, further harming their development and future sell-on value.

Signing short term cover is not an option, as this indicates they are squad players rather than starters who would improve the squad. If they would improve the squad, they would be season long signings, resulting in option number 2.

Why would we sell Bird in January? Our aim is promotion and selling Bird would be to the detriment of that. He's our best midfielder so we should be doing everything to keep him. We do that by getting promoted...

He’s played 4 games and we’ve been out played and beaten in 3. Without him we’ve won 1 in 1.

He’s out of contact and hasn’t signed so he probably wants to go

Arguably been a worse transfer window than last summer when we had a few weeks to do business. Why are we waiting until deadliine day to make loan signings? Plenty of other sides in the league have secured premier league youngsters on loan already.

It’s ok because we are waiting for someone better like we do every window. Then we will hear things like we tried and we will go with what we’ve got bo//ocks again

Then Warne should sell players who aren't part of his plans rather than make false promises. We're working to a tight budget, so any player not getting minutes of the pitch is a waste. Smith and Hourihane's roles should be reduced to squad players. With the injury to Bird, that means one of them would step up to a more regular role until he's back.

Bird, Wilson and Ward all out for 8 weeks. Then they have to get fit so Smith could well be playing right back. So that’s 2 of those midfielders you’ve listed not in midfield. Then Bird could go in January. Warne never signed and of the midfielders to be fair to him.

Ironically, that's just what we've got. Bodies. They're not a functional midfield. Bring anyone we can in to improve the team or we won't achieve a thing. Smith isn't good enough anymore, Hourihane isn't good enough anymore, could we potentially mask their deficiencies with some more athletic players around them? Maybe, but they're both gone at the end of the year regardless.

Amazes me so many are upset about potentially signing 2 new midfielders!
Do people enjoy us being 💩

Plus another centre back of course.

If we went say 4 at the back maybe not. Ward/Wilson/Smith Nelson Bradley Elder

Rooney and Fozzy cover both fullbacks and CB positions.

a compact back 4 might suit Bradley more than being exposed in this this wide back 3 we’ve been trying.

Rather have a pacy striker or even winger. But what would we do with a winger? Okay a pacy striker.

If we sell Cashin we could get all of those and the 2 midfielders. That’s if we get our valuation mind

Why would I? I was adamant that Thompson should have been brought into the side for matchday 2 and should have started every game since. I also would introduce Sibley to the starting lineup once fit

The flaw wasn't having a midfield of Smith, Hourihane and Bird and asking them to play in such a way which leave every single one of them and the defence exposed to counters. A change in style would have addressed that problem.

I have not said we shouldn't sign one midfielder, quite the opposite. I have said I would be annoyed if we signed two midfielders when we already have: Bird, Hourihane, Smith, LThompson and Sibley, with DRobinson and Radcliffe waiting in reserve. Two signings would further compound the short sightedness of this entire summer transfer window.

Would it though? Hourihane and Smith are both nearly 33 (both in last there last year aren’t they) Bird will have half a season left when he’s fit again until he probably leaves on a free if not in January if we want anything for him, leaving those few young lads.

  15. 1 hour ago, Ghost of Clough said:

I'll be very annoyed if it's 2 as it'll be a waste of budget. It means Thompson will drop down to 6th choice CM/AM, then down to 7th when Bird returns from injury - behind Hourihane, New, New, Smith, Sibley.

You must be content with a midfield that got outplayed by Wigan, Blackpool reserves, Burton for a good hour and Oxford then. Midfield is so important and we are getting beat in that area way too often for my liking.
Hopefully we get 2. Smith can cover right back we know he can do a job there.
