I remember a time, not very long ago, when fans bemoaned that our corners and set-pieces never came to anything. Now we're the most effective team in the division in that regard so, of course, fans have to find something else to criticise the manager for, despite the fact that, when Orient actually had to come out and play, we created enough opportunities to have more than doubled our score. Imagine what Dwight Gayle might have done with those chances...

I hope we keep banging in those corners and crosses in the remaining two games. Any team will struggle to defend the quality of cross we produced consistently yesterday. Of course, if we can also take  chances like the ones we did create yesterday, that would make us all much less stressed.

I remember someone behind me in the East stand berating Jamie Ward's corner delivery once, bellowing

"OI, WARDY! IF I WANT TO SEE FLOATING BALLS, I'LL GO AND SIT IN THE BATH!"

  2. Slight tangent, but does anyone know what Hourihane was saying to someone in the East stand at FT? He didn't look super happy, but I couldn't work out what was going on. In the same area of the pitch during the pre-match warm up, I saw him put his arm round CBT's shoulder and was giving him a long talking to, before Matt Hamshaw did the same. Was someone giving CBT grief and Hourihane had a word with then at FT? Maybe I'm making all that up, but there was definitely an odd interaction between Hourihane and a fan/some fans at FT

    That's fine mate 🙂

So Rail seats are the model pretty much all in Europe and in a section at Wolves & all of Celtic.

They replace the seats. These rail seats are locked so you cannot sit down. Only unlocked (by club with an key) for a game where standing is not permitted (which used to be Uefa games).

This was the model that was first on the market and English clubs haven't taken it up due to costs. They would still have a rail in front of you.

Going forward the rail seat model would allow a 1.5 or 1.7 ratio like they have in Germany (you still have your allocated space). This is not possible with the normal seats we have. This isn't to say that our 'stands' can accommodate this extra increase and I was under no illusion that this would be permitted in England to start with but down the line it would offer an alternative especially for any new stadiums that would be built.

    Hope that explains it.

Ah right, so there are some pretty significant differences then. Good to know. Cheers for clarifying that 👍

...we are not quite there with it as we have barriers, granted its a start but it's not rail seats like what Wolves / Celtic have or pretty much every European Club with it...

    @therams69

Forgive the ignorance, but what's the difference between the rail seats and what the club have installed? I know that there are some functional differences (am I right in thinking rail seats can be locked upright?), but the end result is still a space for 1 person in which they can either sit or stand. What do proper rail seats offer that we don't get from the barriers which have been provided?

I have often wondered why defending teams don’t leave a player (or two) up when defending corners. I can’t remember where I saw it, but I’m sure it was said by someone with some authority (so none of us on this forum then😀) that the reason is because it’s usually more advantageous to the defending team to have a packed penalty box. I might be making it up but I’m sure I read it somewhere.

I remember Clough Jr used to leave two pacy players (the likes of Ward, Jacobs et al) right up on the halfway line, as wide as possible when defending a corner. They would both be stood where the touchline met the halfway line, on opposing sides of the pitch. Gave the other team something to think about, and meant they had to leave a couple of players back as well. Not sure it ever bore any fruit, but it was an interesting tactic.

  6. My take on the Bradley sub...

Just prior to it, we'd switched to 3 at the back, with (L-R) Forsyth, Nelson and Cashin. That put Cashin on the wrong side, and I'm not sure Nelson is comfortable in the middle of the three. In order to get round pegs/round holes in the defence, he swaps Forsyth for Bradley (who is more happy in the middle of a 3), which also allowed Cashin and Nelson to swap to their preferred sides.

It struck me as a defensive tidy up after a formation change.

I'm not Keogh's biggest fan, but he joined in the full minute's applause today. As did Fornah.

Likewise. He got a decent reception from the East Stand when he was warming up at HT. Couple of isolated boos, but most folks were showing him a bit of love. In response he applauded the fans and patted his hand to his heart. Seemed genuinely touched by it.

  8. More of an orange hue from where I was sitting.

Anyone else see Keogh in the aftermath of the penalty? Was simultaneously trying to...

    1. Celebrate with his teammates

    2. Not celebrate with his teammates too much

    3. Move his celebrating teammates away from the Derby fans

    4. Apologise to the Derby fans for his teammates celebrating in front of them by applauding the crowd and giving the "calm down" gesture

Poor fella didn't know what to do with himself 😄

Anyone know where Ryan Conway has been?  Occurred to me yesterday I hadn’t seen anything for a while.

Nothing on Twitter from him since 18th Sept. Searching for him on The Athletic app doesn't bring anything up either. His articles are still there, but when you click on his name in the header, nothing happens (unlike other authors whose name links off to their profile).

Hope he's OK. I know he's had his struggles.
