Brammie Steve
I for one believe that the right person received this accolade. [url=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/89/Muhammad_Ali_NYWTS]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/89/Muhammad_Ali_NYWTS/478px-Muhammad_Ali_NYWTS But with so many great sporting men and women in the 100 years from 1901 to 2000, who else merits consideration for the title and why? McRamFan
I would say Ali for international and Steve Redgrave for UK, olympics and gold medal run
ladyram
I'd agree with that Mcram. Just found out who's Lord Seb Coe's All Time Top 10, he has SSR only at No. 8. Surprising to see who's No. 1 on his list, but after reading just what he did achieve, it's an inspired choice. Very funny too. Cisse
Ali by a long shot. Edwin Moses second. He won 107 finals in a row and was amazing to look at 400m hurdles. Started to fight against doping. John Mcenroe third. Incredible touch for the ball. Fought the umpires at the time when clear mistakes by them was accepted and started the change in them to get better. Got Davis Cup back to the appriciation it deserves by playing all the matches while other stars collected money for themselves until the finals began. Became a good commentator after he retired. Most dominant Greco-Roman heavyweight of all time who didn't lose a match for 13 years, and hadn't conceded a point in 6 years until Rulon Gardner beat him in Sydney. Watching old matches of his, it's just frightening how strong that man was. 3 gold medals and a silver in his Olympic Career.

RamOfKansas
He was quite fascinated with for most of his career. After all many thought the Soviets had practically designed him and pumped him up with steroids.
Brammie Steve
Possibly this man, best footballer ever and still a great ambassador for the game and sport in general.A real gent who I would love to chat with. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg195/Billyle151/pele Malcolm Allison: ‘How do you spell Pelé’ Pat Crerand: ‘Easy, G-O-D.’ ITV, World Cup Panel, 1970

And to compete in not just one, but 10 different disciplines and be unbeaten for that long is bloody marvellous on every level.

TelTheRam
For Sports Personality I would have to go with Ali, but for sporting 'excellence' I would nominate Eddy Merckx. His domination of cycling was remarkable with over 500 victories in 1500 races, his best year being 1971 with a win rate of 45%. 5 Tour de France wins with 34 stage wins and holding 96 yellow jersies. He also won overall, mountains and points competition in the Tour in 1969. 5 Tour of Italy wins, with 24 stage wins. 1 Tour of Spain victory with 6 stage wins. He also won very 'Classic' 1-day race except for one.
