Jason Shackell

I had sort of heard of him but had no idea if he was any good or not. I'd never noticed him when he played against Derby like I had with Shaun "Jesus" Barker.

I heard about him being a potential England player back in t'day when he signed for fairly big money at Wolves, never seemed to work out - then went out on loan, particularly impressing at Doncaster and more than filled the gap left by Matt Mills, signing on for Barnsley the year later for a pretty small fee, and winning player of the year and then moving onto us, and arguably should of been player of the year (in my opinion)

I really liked him when he was at Norwich all them years ago, so that's how I knew about him... also put in an incredible shift against us in our promotion season, in a game we still won... I would like to keep hold of Shackell, well infact would go as far as to say if we sell Shackell (which I think we will) and we don't invest every single penny of that money in the team, then I'll be shockingly disappointed, enough to hand my season ticket back in... I love the club, and i'm not saying Shackell is a make or break player but just outright shows what sort of club we are...

Like I say, it weren't a player I'd ever noticed before but I agree we shunt sell him.

Ok, let me re-frase it. You wouldn't of thought he'd of turned out like he did. Sure he was a good player but I certainly didn't expect him to be the player he is

I certainly expected him to turn out like he did... Barnsley finished above us last season? did they not and he won player of the year, also how many of our players last season could of pulled a milly price tag, not many.

I'd of been disappointed if he showed anything less than he has, for a 1million pound centre back he has more than covered his fee in terms of ability and performances. He was a highly reputable player, with a name of being capable of being one of the best in the division and he has proved that.

I didn't expect as much from lets say Brayford, Bailey, Bryson, SDavies, Bucko and Theo and I expected more from Croft, Tyson and Benj Davies.

If Shacks moves on to another midtable NPC club I think that goes to show where we'll be heading in the next few years..

I reckon Shacks is one of the best defender we've had since our PL days.. He could be such a better player and possibly a PL player if he learned how to bring the ball out of defence rather than going for his usual hoof-type hollywood 50 yard pass that reaches it's target only once in every ten attempts

If we start the season with Buxton and O'Brien cb I'll be very dissapointed with DCFC.

I like Buxton, but he's not a lead CB.

We'll have a healthy wage budget!!! Hurrah!!

.....shame it's about points

Took your time to cotton on to our 'lack of ambition' board, but in fact looking at the template, Americans do run things ( baseball, football clubs etc) to make money, they wont be investing in any significant way now, just trying to get a return without ruining the club, and therefore their investment........

Next season will be similar to this, in so much as we will struggle here and there, win a few, end up lower mid table, and attendances will drop further because of mediocre football.......

I did think i had a clue about what the board were doing, with Glick, FFP etc, but watching Glick go,a demand for the budget to be reduced, and possibily selling our 'Captain' for the 2012/13 season, i'm not so sure i do, as with our attendances and FFP, i thought the board/club would progress, as others had to trim their staff/wages etc, but with the noises coming out of PP ATM, i fear the worst.....

if you had seen my earlier posts you would realise I have doubted the ambition of the board for a long time

In terms of how the americans run the club,

from what I had heard about NFL/NBA, you run the club at a loss as long as you preserve there position,

ie its a short term loss of 10 years or so for the big reward in the long term on the resale, this was in interviews with the liverpool owner and glazers,

They said they see football clubs should work the same as thats how it does over there its the asset increase they are looking for which obviously they need to get to the prem to realise the highest value

Don't be fooled, The americans want us earning profits, and that in itself will be more than enough for their PR people, even if we're playing in league one!

A football team making profits, is pretty much a non-entity and would be good to put on their CV

Rams rejected 4 Shackell bids

Derby County say they have rejected four offers from three different clubs for captain Jason Shackell.

The 28-year-old centre-back, [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/13845821]who joined from Barnsley last June, played every minute of all 49 games last season.

Chief executive Tom Glick told [url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/england/derbyshire/default.stm]BBC Radio Derby that although every player had a price, they wanted him to stay.

"He's our player and we expect him to continue to be. We've turned down four bids from three clubs and there have been other clubs interested," he said.

"It's no surprise, he was a star player for us. We have rejected four bids and have happily done so because he is a key player."

Glick, [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18268396]who leaves to take up a role with Premier League champions Manchester City in August, had previously said the [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18062274]Rams are under no financial pressure to sell players.

So we should, Wouldn't sell for any price, he's our best player.

Well, maybe an OTT bid where we can go out and grab an equal CB and have some cash left over. £2.8- £3m.

More than he's worth but that's the point

I would think his agent must know what kind of offer Derby will accept. I think we would sell if there was anything like a 1.8m- 2m offer on the table. The 4 clubs are just dipping their toes in. Where as we have likely said it's either x or he's going nowhere.

HIs agent needs to be clear to those clubs that are interested, meet the asking price or it's no deal.

I hope he stays, but I'm kind of intrigued to see what we would do with 1.5m in cash. We've clearly considered starting the season without jason.

I'd say we'd sell for £2 million, with the £250,000 from Maguire, it gives us £2,250,000 to play with.

I think you could buy a decent CB and forward with that, especially with the CB at Colchester out of contract, we could profit from the sale of Shackell and give us some more firepower on the transfer market. Classic catch 22 situation.

I'd definitely sell for £2million or above then get Chambers on a free from the scum and use that money to get a striker, possibly another centre back and that can help fund compensation we'll have to pay for Michael Jacobs.
