Chris Riggott's contract with Derby County has been cancelled by mutual consent.

With the season approaching the halfway stage, and after consideration from both parties, it has been amicably agreed to cancel the defender's one-year contract by mutual agreement from 1st January 2012.

The 31-year-old re-joined the Rams in August 2011 after recovering from a long-term injury layoff.

He featured on a handful of occasions for the reserves in the Central League Central Division, as well as the Reserve Cup and Derbyshire Senior Cup, but failed to register a first-team appearance in his second spell with the club.

Riggott progressed through the youth system at Derby and made his debut for the first team in May 2000. He made 100 appearances Rams colours before departing for Middlesbrough in 2003.

After a brief spell on loan at Stoke City and a short stint with Cardiff City last season, Riggott re-joined Derby in the summer.

Chris leaves Derby County with everyone's best wishes for his future career.

You spoke to the player and he told you what he earns?

It is common knowledge he was on a basic wage and if he had of played (which was never likely), he would have got a much bigger wage. I did point that out on these forums early season highlighting the wasted resources along with Kilbane (who will have cost us 200-250k for his loan spell) but many fell for this pay as you play illusion.

Good luck to Chris in whatever he does in the future, a top lad by all accounts and before all the injuries one of the best players to ever come out of this city.

Well as ive been his mate for 20odd years and I play football with his two brothers every week its not that difficult to be honest.

Im not suprised its been cancelled, he has settled with a new partner and just had his first child, if he isnt going to play there is no point for either party

It was just a gamble that never paid off imo, we had Barker and Buxton with long term injuries, Nigel though if he could get him fit he'd be good cover that's all, he's a Derby lad through and through, it's a shame and no big deal.

Yes, Clough must have spent somewhere around £60k (?) hoping he’d get a very good and very experienced player on the cheap to act as cover. It was a gamble, and if Clough had a bit more in his kitty he’d probably have chosen differently.
