Nothing could tempt me to have their life. 24/7 under public and media scrutiny, not being able to have any kind of normal lifestyle. Simple every day actions ridiculed or torn apart. Not being able to trust anyone that you meet and even those that you have known for years.

Celebrities have similar issues, but for the large part, they know what they're getting into, they're not born into it.

Yes that is a huge downside but look at the positives of being a Royal, no waiting for medical care, access to the top specialists, travelling all over the world, meeting some very interesting and talented people, no worries about whether to go without food or heating. I dare say there are load more positives too.

Surely we sing ‘God save the king’ from now on (I’m not Charlie’s #1 fan by any stretch of the imagination)?

I'm not a royalist  but the Queen seemed a nice lady and performed above and beyond the call of duty in accordance with the life she was born into. Albeit a privileged one. A couple of days mourning is probably enough. As always the media push these things to the point of being completely over the top. Apparently people are being arrested for merely stating their views in public, saying they are not royalists and don't agree with unelected heads of state. Again, a totally ott reaction by the police. As always the EFL, FA and Premier League numpties got it completely wrong in cancelling all football on Saturday, where as other sports took the view that it was sensible to get on with things and carry on as normal. As the Queen herself tended to do.

Arrested for breaching the peace, not for stating their views. See the freedom of speech thread - say what you like, but doesn't free you from consequences if you say it in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well it wouldn't be much use making your point sat on the sofa in your own front room. Seemingly as the authorities might prefer....
