Well Clough has said:

"If a move gets close, we might not involve Luke against Coventry City on Saturday, so as not to take any risks with him."

And

"Conor could start," said manager Nigel Clough, who is waiting on the fitness of strikers Rob Hulse and Chris Porter.

And we all know what Dan's sources are like....Alfonso Alves ahem ahem.

Have you had an apology yet Dan :D

QUEENS Park Rangers and Charlton Athletic are still believed to be interested in Derby County striker Luke Varney.

But Bristol City are no longer in the chase for the 27-year-old after signing two forwards yesterday.

City landed Jon Stead from Ipswich Town for around £200,000 and Bournemouth's Brett Pitman in a deal which could eventually be worth around £800,000.

QPR manager Neil Warnock remains in the hunt for two new strikers despite their 100% record at the start of the season.

Warnock, whose side visit Derby on Saturday, missed out on Ipswich front man Jon Walters, who opted to join Stoke City.

"If not by the Derby match, I want at least another couple of forwards in by the Middlesbrough home game," said Warnock.

Varney joined Derby from Charlton, first on loan in November 2008 and then permanently in January 2009.

His appearance in the recent defeat by Cardiff City was his first in a year and he spent virtually all of last season on loan with Sheffield Wednesday.

"Luke's a player we have inquired about over the summer but we've enquired about 30 or 40 strikers," said Addicks boss Phil Parkinson.

"We're constantly searching and ringing managers up to see who's available."

Rams manager Nigel Clough is thought to have watched Danny Green of Dagenham & Redbridge and Notts County's Ben Davies at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Green, 22, is an attacking midfielder who helped Dagenham win promotion to League One last season.

He has scored 13 goals in 48 league games and recently signed a three-year deal.

Davies, 29, is also an attacking midfielder who has hit 15 goals in 45 league games for Notts.

Add to that.....

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson admits he is unlikely to be able to bring former Valley striker Luke Varney back to south-east London.

Parkinson asked about Varney's availability in the summer, while the 27-year-old was left out of Derby's squad at the weekend.

"Luke's a player we have enquired about, but we've enquired about 30 or 40 strikers," he said.

"We're constantly searching and ringing managers up to see who's available, so there's certainly no concrete truth there."

Looks like it's down to QPR or nowhere.

Skysports.com understands that Blackpool are in talks with out-of-favour Derby striker Luke Varney.

The 27-year-old was at the Premier League new-boys' training ground on Thursday for discussions regarding a move to Bloomfield Road.

Varney is not part of Nigel Clough's future plans at Derby and the Championship outfit have been looking to move him on for the majority of the summer.

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is eager to increase his attacking options for what looks like a difficult season in the top flight and a move appears imminent.

Clough left Varney out of his squad for Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Coventry for fear of an injury scuppering any move.

Skysports.com understands Blackpool have agreed a loan deal for Derby striker Luke Varney.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier this week Blackpool were lining up a surprise deal to bring Varney to Bloomfield Road with the player at the club for talks on Thursday.

Varney has dropped out of favour at Derby and Rams boss Nigel Clough is willing to let him move on.

Queens Park Rangers were thought to be leading the chase for Varney, but Blackpool have stolen in to lure the former Crewe man to the Premier League new boys.

Varney is understood to have agreed personal terms and could be available for this weekend's clash with Fulham if he secures his move in time.

The move sees Blackpool boss Ian Holloway finally land a forward after a long search for striking reinforcements.
