K O'riely was singled out on match of the day by Jimmy Hill and said "his parents need to take him down the police station" after he led a charge into Chelsea fans from the Columbo End.

Our next home game the away fans wanted to see our film star, They got to meet him and his supporting cast after the game...lol

My dad used to know a lot of the blokes from them days, I've met a few myself over the years that he meets up with now and again. Some stayed regular mates with him up till they passed away.  there seems to have been a lot over a short time.  He has a picture of them all in a pub called the Cheshire cheese on the night it closed which was up near the spot somewhere.  Think there's only about three of them left in his photo and he's only  67

Always remember he had a full house or a straight flush and got beat with a royal flush on some gambling site.

LOL, I think his losses were close to £70k, He always called his missus a Trout as she'd never shut up, His lad was taking illegal sustances which caused a bad household.

Think he had to pay off his dealers to stop them from killing him.

This thread is really interesting. Nobody ever talks about the DLF, so I know absolutely duck all about it.

Some people think that talking about the DLF glorifies football violence, but for quite a lot of people, it was just something that went along with football during the 70's 80's and 90's. Times were different, football fans were different and for some of the main players, it really was their life.

Previously when the DLF or the culture has been mentioned on here the threads have been taken over by people looking down their noses at others who lived through those times.

I am sure we all got involved in things we regret but it was about a lot of things. Music, clothes, mates, laughs.. Each of those decades were very different, 70s was chaos and more dangerous for people who did not want to be involved. Big numbers And madness, some real no go places but when you racked off that train and a roar went up.. Well, I loved it.. 80s, fashion and organisation.. Less dangerous for those wanting to see the game (had its moments still though). Then the rave scene made everyone a bit more mellow..

Others will have their views, right of passage, maybe. There has always been something, Mods and Rockers etc. Tribal, who knows.

The DLF was DC onwards from my recollection? Not the numbers of some clubs but had the quality.. Once knives and weapons were used, that was me.. Not risking that..

I'll get to the DLF later, Football violence started in the 30s with Millwall and the Dock Workers, It really kicked off mid 60s with the birth of the Mods, No good going to a seaside once a year and kicking off when a Saturday afternoon came round every week home and away.

The London mobs ie Palace, Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham were the real  protaganists followed by the Mancs and Scousers, Derby being a sleep backwater didn't really get into it till the late 60s, Our Leader if that's the right term was a fella called Fagin(yes Oliver Twist)he was a scruffy 6 foot plus lanky big mouth fella, In the early 70s he was thrown into the Trent outside the City ground, Rescued and never to be seen again.

3 Guys K O'riely, F Howard and L Lightening and in someway Black Herbie were the ones who brought lads together, There were others who came to the fore as Derby at home became hard to impossible to move from our own end, As the object was to take home ends, Popside Vulcan Street was our home, At the back was the battle ground as there was no segregation from the Columbo End, It was mayhem at the back, No OB just bodies going for it, As the 70s(a mad decade for FV)ended so the beginings of organised football lads started in the 80s.

Pretty sure it was one night at Carlisle around 82-83 that the birth of the DLF was started, Some say it was Mike Waterson who inadvertently said after Chelsea and Leeds trashed the Ossie end seats by saying "we have our own lunatic fringe" Derbys top lad was DC a half caste lad who was known not to be messed with, Others would get involved and they became a very tight "firm" around 50-60, On a good day you could have around 150 with more joining the fray, There's cracking stories of the Draganora pub in Leeds, Show boating in Sheffield an horendous night in Surrey Quays, A good/bad night in Tottenham when I believe the Yardys got involved as the DLF raided the fruit machine in this landlords boozer who then made a call to those who saw an opportunity to have some fun, The following season a coach load were tooled up to take revenge on those who did them damage, Fortunately/unfortunately it got stopped at Scratchwood services, Held there for hours all weapons were taken off and the coach being escorted back, Another event was where after a postponement in London(i think)they ended up in Barnet where Ilkeston were playing, It kicked off with some wrestlers from the 80s getting involved.

More stories here if you'd like to read them...Links 2-3-4-5 have been closed...Enjoy.

Was it proper, proper fighting? Like 'I don't care if I kill you' sort of thing?

I'd grow up a bit by the mid -late Seventies and I used to take a young lad for a neighbour .It was the year that Chelsea was banned for throwing all the seats on the pitch the previous season .

I was in the Popside and an almighty scrap started with the infiltrating Chelsea fans ,I went down the front and put the young lad onto the running track .I looked back and there was a row of coppers standing at the back with their arms folded watching the action.

I walked back up the terracing through the punch up and spoke to the copper on the end .Are to going to sort this lot out I asked I've got a young lad with me .

He said son if you want it sorting out borrow my helmet,at which point it took it off his head to give to me.

Not to sure whether thats a question where your trying to pull a certain part of my anatomy. But I'll answer.

Anything went in FV, Tools, Head, Feet, Knees, Elbows even teeth to get the upper hand, The bin dippers would use blades, Think of a New Year sale where £600 55inch TVs are selling for £20, Windmilling, Kicking to get at your rival instead of the TVs.

Every city/town has it's share of nutters, but I honestly can't remember any of the people I mixed with seriously going in with the intention to kill. But it was proper fighting.
