Maggie gets the blame from some quarters for the mining industry going down the swanny and all the mines closing down and miners out of work. They never mention the pits labour closed under Wilson which actually were at an alarming rate and many more than under Thatchers tenure.

I don't have enough " miner" knowledge to know the ins and outs of what the families went through, good or bad. But I do know the spite and bile thrown towards Margeret Thatcher about what happened back then is not even handed or fair.

She was the pantomime villain Stockers, she was actually as bad as her Spitting image puppet. It was the way she came over when she was talking....she was Hyacinth Bucket on acid!

The spite and hatred in her voice for ordinary working people was real. The real culprits (as ever) were the right wing think tanks, big business economists, corporate lobbyists who were desperate to take what little gains working people had made back into their tax haven bosoms.

Maggie, was not too bright if truth be told, like so many other bigoted snobs, she would resolutely believe she was right even if the evidence was staring her right in the face. Matron knows best......when she called us, and I say us even though I've never been down a pit in my life, the "enemies within", she was talking about every working bloke or woman who had the temerity to ask for better working conditions, more pay, holiday pay, sick pay etc...she really saw us as the enemy. The enemy of who? The enemy of the ruling elite who use people like Thatcher to split and divide the people of this country.

Figures published recently show that the top 10% have increased their wealth by 20% since 2010. That's 5 years of austerity where billions have been transferred from ordinary working people to fund tax cuts for the already fabulously wealthy elite.

That's Thatcher's legacy for me Stockers old pal, I would be far happier if people took the time to read a bit more than the opinion columns in the mainstream press and direct a bit more of the blame to where it sits rather than political poodles like Maggie.

Maybe I should keep my gob shut since I wasn't even born when this was all cracking off, but I've always felt "the enemies within" is a horrendous way to talk about the citizens you govern over. It's one step away from "Take these enemies within and throw them in the Gulag". Which ironically, was the very ideology she was so intrinsically terrified of. She fought off the miners because she equated "unions and worker rights" with "Brezhnevite Communism".

Hardly the same thing Maggie me old chum, people just wanted what they were owed for their loyal service. Good job your "friend" Pinochet taught you a thing or two about suppressing socialism.
