Mascarell not returning

I liked Omar. I remember a strong away crowd at Watford loving him too and chanting his name over and over on the trains back to Euston. I would have him back if we could, but it's not the end of the world if we don't.

His set pieces are good, but we should have the chance to bring Hanson through next season and he's a great set piece taker. Plus, if we manage to get Ince back, then that's another set piece specialist.

Martin can bend 'em in too.

<sigh>

some people!

he's not wrong though mostyn.

Neither Albentosa nor Mascarell were any better than we already had.

Come on pal you're a better judge than that.

I never saw what Mascarell offered that made people hype him and I don't care if you're a centre back from Spain or Timbuktoo you've got to be able to defend and you can't be getting your ****turned inside out from throw in's to the bye line.

Albentosa won't make it in England.

Mascarell might turn out to be another Bueno and have some cracking seasons in Spain as well but he's not right for the English championship which is where Derby are.

Two wasted signings.

Try not to sigh, tell me how I'm wrong.

I think it's a little harsh calling them wasted signings - Mascarell contributed a lot this season, wasn't as bad as some are saying, and Albentosa has had little time to adjust. He was brought in at the wrong time, into a team with dwindling confidence and thrown in at the deep end in a new country. We'll see better from him, I think. Look at how Eibar have struggled without him. There's a good player waiting to come out there.

If you want wasted signings, it would have to be Leon Best.

Honestly Animal I'm not too fussed at how Eibar have struggle without him.

I'm more concerned at how we've struggled with him.

I think it will take him longer than a decent pre-season, look at Ayala for example, he's been in England a good couple of years before he got to grips with the English style and in my opinion for one and half seasons (including his time with us) he was a red card waiting to happen.

I don't think he can play. I'm prepared to accept of course I might be wrong but the early signs are not good for me. He's hesitant, he gets turned too easily and his distribution had been woeful. I've not seen this potentially dominating centre half everyone seems to think is inside him.

Mascarell flattered to deceive and cost us too many important goals getting caught in possession or giving it away trying a hollywood ball.

For what it's worth I 100% agree with you on Leon Best, Mac made some decent loan signings but he wasn't one of them

what a waste of time those kind of replies are from you.

Are you here to talk football or just to play the fool?

Yes I do talk about football and to say Albentosa is 'waste signing' is stupid. Like someone said he came at wrong time. I hope he shut you up next season. :-)

With Mascarell, he's a much better footballer technically than Eustace and arguably Bryson and Hendrick, and at this stage of his career is only lacking experience and decision making. There's only one way to get those, and that's game time.

As for Albentosa, as with Mascarell, I've seen examples of him showing the capabilities needed to be a good acquisition. No doubt in my mind that 6 games is not enough time to judge someone.

That's the point, no one has, but like I said, he won't if he's devoid of confidence, can't converse with teammates and is woefully out of form.

Then there was his debacle with his special insoles...

Unfortunately for him, he was brought in as some sort of god/saviour/relief from Keogh and expectations were high. He is yet to adapt (unsurprisingly) and as a result the fans have been less than helpful. I'm not saying he will be the saviour, but at least give him some time before writing him off, please?

Good luck with that. Ronnie seems like write anyone off already. Can't wait to see Raul shut him up anyway :-)

Mascarell was frustrating at times but did his best, he was playing out of position. Centre Midfield and Defensive Midfield are different roles. He did lose the ball but he's not the only one, I remember Hendrick losing the ball several times before we conceded, albeit because no-one bothered to cover his position in the middle of the park leaving miles of space.

Judging Albentosa when he wasn't match fit and playing in a new league/country is ridiculous. I agree with Animal, it's hard to come into a team of people you don't know whose confidence is shot and play your best football and turn it around on your own. He deserves regular action when he's fully fit to show what he's made of.

You have to remember that Albentosa was signed during January's transfer window. It can be lot harder to player from abroad to adapt, he certainly ain't the first and won't be last. I'm willing to give him time, IMO he looks promising.
