AmericanRam
From the DET: PAUL Coutts is closing in on a return to action for Derby County. The midfielder has taken part in training this week and could feature in a private friendly against Burnley on Tuesday. Coutts has been sidelined by a hip injury and last featured for the Rams in their opening pre-season friendly against Matlock Town in early July. The Scot also missed seven months of last season after he dislocated a kneecap and chipped a piece of bone off his thigh in the Capital One Cup defeat against Leicester City in September. Does anyone think he would provide some value to the first-team squad if he can stay fit and looks good when he gets back in action?

I'm pleased about this he deserves a chance he does have a lot of good qualities as a Footballer.

i-Ram
I haven't had time to read all this thread, but I will go out on a limb and say he is a good player who deserves some luck, and I hope he manages to stay fit.

RLACML
I like him as a player and think he would thrive in our system. Good option to have.
Alph
Forgot we had him. Quite like him. Without injuries he's going to struggle to get a start
CumbrianRam
Don't see where he fits. Sorry.
needles
I can see him doing the attacking midfield job as a cover option, and he had a brilliant season as a foil for a dynamic overlapping attacking full back on the right...I'd be glad to have him back in contention. Walsall_Ram
Another great addition to the 2 in midfield. Bryson, Hughes, Hendrick and Coutts... How strong does that look. By far the best dead ball specialists at the club too.
AmericanRam
Simmo's take on Coutts from today's DET. He is clearly very high on him and thinks he can make the main squad: LONG-TERM absentee Paul Coutts has been backed to force his way back into the Derby County squad as he closes in on a return to action. The midfielder has taken part in training this week and could feature in a private friendly against Burnley on Tuesday. Coutts has been sidelined by a hip injury and last featured for the Rams in their opening pre-season friendly against Matlock Town in early July. Ashz09
I remember when he used to play out wide he was decent. When he played centre mid for around 2 games he was fantastic the runs he made etc had me on my seat. He's quite a powerful player.
PistoldPete2
Could be an option centre mid as alternative to Eustace. Not going to enter the Eustace debate on another thread , but one disadvantage he has is his age, means he cant play 3 games in a week. Playing Hughes Hendrick and Bryso in same team never seems to work and Mascarell may be too lighweight for the Eustace role.(not seen him play) . Coutts is a good option, solid player. Walsall_Ram
Coutts is an attacking midfielder. Eustace is a defensive midfielder.
Ambitious
Coutts is an attacking midfielder. Eustace is a defensive midfielder. You think? He got thrown out wide and needed to be attacking, but his best qualities a lot of the time were his ability to stand his man and put his foot in. He never looked comfortable in Clough's system, maybe McClaren can get the best out of him.
