Steve McClaren

If he can mount one Championship play off challenge in the next 5 seasons he's improved on Clough.

Just so long as no-one has to launch a League 1 playoff challenge.

I'm off to Funktion Fitness gym in next half hour, they open the doors so you can walk out through the Gordon Guthrie Stand. Will have phone on ready to see if schteeve is posing in the dugout!

Right, just a report from Pride Park - lots of media there - expecting announcement as early as late this afto.. so no new news.

McLaren's wifes from Derby and all his kids were born in Derby - if that makes ANY difference to owt.

It would give me immense pleasure if McL (if appointed) has a brilliant impact here, especially given the damage he did at Florest.

That would wipe the smirks off their faces

Calling agent Schteeve....

Can you imagine if he turned us down now....... florist would love that their worst (ish) manager turned us down......

Why have the board rushed to get someone in not like delaying appointment would screw our chances of a top 6 finish why didnt they make approaches to managers currently in jobs we dont have to necessarily pick from out of work managers and am not classifying McClaren as a manager in work before we start

Isn't he working for QPR at the moment?

Hasn't Harry said how great he has been while working for QPR?

Wasn't Joey Barton interviewed on SSN and said that he hopes he doesn't leave working for QPR although he believes the Derby job would be great for him?

So why don't you class Steve McClaren as being in work? Derby are looking for a head coach, he has a huge reputation as coach. Who would you prefer and why?

Just seen the SSN feature on us. It's left me a bit confused about what to feel with this appointment.

He cocked it up at Forest, though who knows if he would have turned the corner. He definitely cocked it up for England. It didn't go well at Wolfsburg or Twente second time round.

However, he's the only manager to win major silverware with Middlesbrough. He played a part in the United side which took the treble. His title success with Twente was an outstanding achievement that any coach or manager in the world would be proud to have on their CV. On top of that, you've got Joey Barton hoping he stays and saying how he thinks he's the perfect man for the job.

Clough's left behind a nice set up, but we've got a few issues still. Almost all of them are footballing ones, IMO. Surely the man regarded as one of the best coaches in the country won't be an abject failure?
