Life Plan

ok guys I need a few opinions on this.

At the moment I'm at uni doing sports therapy but its coming to the end of the year and I've decided that this isn't really the course for me. Although I have learnt a lot, I am quite behind where I should be, probably because I'm not putting the effort in due to the fact that I don't find it as interesting as I thought I would.

So I've been thinking about what I would do if I did drop out/fail uni and I really don't know what to do.

Are there jobs that you can earn a good living from without having a degree ?

I'd love to do personal training but the fee to pay for the course is almost 4k !

Any advice or opinions ?

thanks

Jimbob

Get a job and be prepared to work your way up.

Even if its Maccy Dee's, you can work up to be a manager.

Would you finance a car for 4k? Many would, yet some people wouldn't finance a course if it brought the rewards with your future earnings.

You don't get owt for nowt.

It's not that I won't pay for the course its just that I've got no where near 4k to pay for it. Suppose I would have to get a job for a while and save up but with my previous experience in work being from sports direct only, I don't stand much chance of getting a full time job.

Do in life what you enjoy doing as much as humany possible.

Best video I've ever watched, reconfirmed my own thoughts.

At the point I am in my life...that video was killer! Problem I have is you say what you want to do, but people always put up walls. Once people start putting the idea in your head that what you want to do is not possible, you start believing it. Confidence and motivation are quickly zapped and you turn off that light.

People who tell you that dont understand life and what it's about. You get one life, and that's it, to do anything other than what you truly want to do is nonsensical.

The problem with that video is that money is an issue..

There were some brilliant situations there.. Diving in the barrier reef, skydiving into a huge well, climbing mountains etc..

These situations cost money and you need to work to be able to do it..

Some of these are simply impossible for people to achieve.. Since I've been here in Mexico I've realised just how hard the way of life here is.. It's a great life with what is in Mexico but it's such a low-paid country that 99% of the people can't physically earn the sufficient money to do any of those activities outside of Mexico..

My dream is to build a small house on a piece of land with a beautiful sitting area to relax in the evenings, have a jeep and go surfing at the weekends.. The people around me are great but for me to earn the money to be able to do those things (Jeep plus surfing plus land plus house materials = $50k) how the hell am I going to be able to afford that when I earn $600 a month (of which I save around $300)? And what I earn is actually alot higher than the average..

Money is everything.. Without it the chances of doing what you really want to do are so slim..

That video kind of falls down when the answer is basically nothing - I'm bone idle, would love to just sit around, play the odd game of football, stay relatively fit, spend lots of time with my kids and live in a nice house with nice things- hang on, I should be a footballer - its all clear now - not too late at 37 is it?

Ahh University, my specialist subject.....get a job!

This for me is the problem....

"Are there jobs that you can earn a good living from without having a degree ?"

Young people are brain washed into thinking that without a degree it's impossible to get a decent job, bullshit.

Uni drop out on your CV won't look great, how many years into the course are you and how long to go? Very few rarely love the job they do, if its possible with a lot of hard work to complete it that for me would be the best option.

I dont think you should take it too literally, it's more the point it's trying to make. People always put constraints by saying what you can or cannot do. The truth is, it depends how far you're prepared to go to achieve what you want. If you sacrifice enough, put enough time in, you've got the opportunity to almost do anything you want in this world. The only tool needed is to have the intelligence to realise this.

You cant want your dream badly enough as you're not willing to move country or change job to give yourself a chance of fulfilling it.

You've got your whole life ahead of you, do what makes you happy, something you're interested in. Nothing worse than a job that doesn't inspire you.

I always think of David Beckham (cough), no, joking apart, I remember seeing a documentary on him and I think it was his mum said, he'd just be in the garden, kicking a ball, all the time, practicing.  He wasn't interested in anything else, he just wanted to play football.  I'll bet there are loads of lads about with Beckhams ability, just not his desire and drive.

Find something that grabs you, don't expect to earn 25k a year straight away. Job satisfaction, that's what you need.

If you're not on a mobile device there should be a link bottom left to restore posts you was writing

No such luck, however it was not well written and it's probably better I have the chance to express myself when I have more time.

Thanks though boss!

EKR always has top advice in these sort of discussions, have you ever thought about becoming a life coach?

Hope that doesn't sound too weird

Haha, cheers.

I read/watch/think quite a lot about the philosophy of life. I feel like I've figured it out where most of the world hasnt.

From the things I say though, it sounds as if I've some motivated, driven person trying to achieve goals. When in reality, I'm a lazy c*nt chasing the impossible dream of playing poker for a living whilst travelling the world. But hey, if you're happy doing what you're doing whether you're a crack addict or a million pound business, nothing else matter.

Poor choice of words buddy, there is no true happiness for drug addicts, it always ends in shatter dreams, shattered lives, broken promises and time wasted which could have been truly fulfilling.

Its the end of my first year of a 3 year course. My understanding on life at the moment is that there are a lot of unhappy people because of the current state of the country and jobs are very hard to come by especially without a degree. My dad who I only really talk to on occasions basically drilled into me from early that uni was the only way to be successful in life because he didn't go and has a poor job.

It was more a figure of speech. Lots of my mates smoke weed and sniff gear. They're not addicts but they enjoy doing it, but as a society we're suppose to look down on them, why? They're happy doing it, it's not good for them but neither is eating junk food. What does it matter at the end of the day?

Suppose it's an oxymoron, a happy drug addict, do you find them? Are any 'addicts' happy? My best mate used to be a borderline drug addict, I didnt hang round with him at the time, but he used to do weekly 'base' benders, smoke copius amounts of weed, even tried crack. He looks back on it and still say it was good although realises now he was being a right c*nt at the time, now he hasnt even had a drink in about 2 years.

Who said anything about looking down on people? I work in homeless services and would never try to look down on another person, it's not  who I am. I just thought the expression was a bit careless. Yes you can be happy person and partake in drug use, it's not impossible. But crack addicts are not exactly what you would refer to as happy people.

I wasn't trying to start a fight or anything, just felt it was miss-placed.

Large shrimp, now there's an oxymoron :)
