So what are your thoughts on this new contract.

Supposed to be on 600k a week.

I thought it was all getting a little silly when the players were earning 10k a week, then 20k, then 100k, then last year up to 250k and now this.

Isn't it wrong, that this just doesn't surprise me. The figures lose context after about 10k when it becomes just too much for the working man to get his head around. These are entertainers and the best entertainers should earn very good money, sadly, somewhere along the road, this cost of entertainment seems to have made the hyper-inflation of the German Republic look like sound economics - and it all ends up in the pockets of agents, mercernaries, dodgy owners and of couse players who probably can't believe their luck.

I thought it was 12m Euros a year, not to be sneezed at but I would guess shirt sales alone would a few pounds towards it.

He is a superstar, and I would guess a player that you could probably market to get a lot of your money back, why shouldn't he get some of that instead of the club.

Perhaps this opens up a debate of just how rich successful people should be when the majority that idolise him in Barcelona and elsewhere in the world are struggling to keep their head above water. I'm no socialist, quite the opposite, but the numbers have gone too far in my opinion.

Makes it look decent value when Yaya Toure, who in my opinion is a average to good midfielder is on £240,000, and is no where near the standard of Messi.

But the salary is ludicrous, especially when you see Ben Davies at Swansea, who a couple of months ago was earning £400 a week, and has just had it quadrupled to £1,600 a week, puts into reality what these players are getting paid! Madness!

playing wise yeah but think of the money they get through management coaching or punditry.

its ridiculous!

Where did you read that mcsilks?

Was it a flat $600k or were shirt sales and sponsors included?

Am not sure. I've been trying to find the article I read but have yet to find it.

Very frustrating as I wanted to put the article in the thread.

Tax here is 40% on anything over £32,000 a year.50% on 600k a week is pretty good.

You get about £10k tax free though - so you've got to earn £42k ish before 40% kicks in.
