The Big Sammon Thread

wardy was totally w@nk last night, his penalty was worse than sammons vs palace but no one booed him for it. The best thing about it was sammon straight away went to console him - it happens to everyone! But because wardy scored a goal everyone forgets how poorly he played (maybe because he's still carrying a slight knock?) whereas sammon had a really good game, created space, chances and caused no end of problems for bristols defence but because he missed a very good chance which he should have scored it gives people a reason to make him a scapegoat! shocking from our fans i cant blame him for being so pi$$ed off at FT.

Yes it was a very easy chance which you expect someone at this level to stick away but look at it from his perspective; not scored in ages and the fans are on your back constantly so he probably got nervous/excited when the chance came making him not take his time or set himself properly. secondly the ball was whipped across with some considerable pace and bounced just in front of him which didn't make it any easier for the poor bloke. Not making excuses for the miss (it was terrible) but just saying that maybe it wasn't as easy as it seemed. I've played football and watched football for a long long time and have seen much worse misses by much better players, torres vs man utd for instance. It just shows how much pressure they're under to perform and the slightest mistake results in a terrible miss.

Do people honestly think that ironically chanting and jeering his every touch will help his confidence? players take time to adapt and find their feet in teams - the time to judge him will be how he performs next season when he's had a full season of first team football under his belt, in the meantime get behind the boys and support the club!

Before Sammon came in, we really needed a forward to hold the ball in the oppositions half for at least a second before it came straight back at us. Its a problem we were having a lot and quite a few people were talking about missing the hold up play of Kuqi the season before.

Sammon gives us that ability to hold the ball up the field and get our defenders off our goal line, we are fifth highest scorers in the division, our problem is that we have let in nearly 20 more goals than some of the teams above us!

Kugi scored a goal every 6 games, Sammon is on 5.4. For a hold up centre forward he is actually doing better than arguably most popular hold up forward of recent years. For me his job is to give us the chance to score rather than take the chances and I think he does that well but it is frustrating to see easy chances missed. I believe we would be worse off without him.

......I think his confidence has been obliterated.......

and yet you see fit to defend the 'fans' that boo him or cheer whenever he completes a pass....

He does look to be  a poor footballer with very limited ability, but while he's wearing our shirt and putting in a shift on the pitch, he deserves our support - last night was embarrassing, not for Sammon's miss, but from the reaction of a large number of our supporters to one of our own players....

I wonder what the Derby team thinks when it walks out of the tunnel at Pride Park?

Are they expecting a good reception? Or do they fear every mistake being booed? What do they make of the silence? Do they wonder whether we really care?

Would be interesting to hear from the captain.

Hummmmm, not really setting league one alight is he? Not sure how you can say he can finish when he scored 3 goals for Derby and 3 for Coventry in a total of 50 odd games

Hes younger and played the same amount of games as sammon. He can finish.I would like to see him feature more.If anything I would like to have a few options Sammon,Ball,Robinson,Grigg? and Waghorn?

Theo is 10x worse than Sammon but he scored goals, that's why he never got boo'd etc.

Sammon should have AT LEAST 15 goals this season if he could actually strike a ball, which I think is what frustrates people the most.
He's a striker, and the last time I heard they were the ones who meant to score, unless it's changed?

IF he had 15+ goals, everyone would love him. FACT.

He never will be a goal scorer and as I said, if we want play-offs next season, we can't have a striker that gets 1 goal every month and misses clear cut chances, we just can't.

BUT, if we're happy mid-table season after season then he's the right man for the job.

Fans have very few ways of letting the players, the manger, the coaching staff, the board etc know their thoughts.

If they don't want Connor Sammon at derby county as they think he isn't good enough what do they do?

One option is write a letter

Arrange a meeting with Sam rush

But the most impactful at getting their view across is at games.

When it comes down to it sammon is in the team to do the running up front. If he was in the team to score goals.... He wouldn't be in the team would he?

Coutts Hendrick Bryson Jacobs

Ward Martin

For me would score more goals put simply. However in fairness you would lose sammons work rate and harrying defenders badly but it would be worth a go because all Sammon does is run.

i think sammon did ok last night yes he missed a sitter but as it has been said before he played a part in two of our goals, i dont think he is in the team to score loads of goals hes there to create the chances and hassle the deffence. if you want to have a moan at some body then COUTTS has been very very poor the last five games camt beat his man cant cross cant run and just does not liook interested time for jaccobs to be given a run.

Why does the name of the thread keep changing?

One of my employees decided to change it from Awful to Average, rather than see the title change each week with the current mood I switched it to something neutral.

The thing is coutts has been dire. He needs the bray desperately.

But he has the luxury of being a midfielder who's job doesn't entail scoring goals. It is getting assists and he is top of the assists for us.

Whereas sammon is a striker and his job is to score goals. If he stopped scoring like coutts has stopped getting assists then they are both even but the difference is coutts already has his numbers to his name.

If Sammon was on 21 goals this season and stopped scoring then it wouldn't be a problem but he has something like 8. Coutts has already achieved a lot this season Sammon hasn't and is failing to do so that is the difference.

Well, there's just no middle ground with you is there. Grow up my friend.

When I was little, my gran used to tell me that everything that did you good would feel or taste nasty at the time. That's what I'm suggesting - that you catch the Shitty Ground emotional roller-coaster for a while. After you've thrown up, you'll feel better.

I'm ALL middle ground, because frankly to hold the extreme views you do just seems to be, well, a bit pathetic really. It's an undisputed fact that extremists of one form or another also have ZERO sense of humour. Remember when you slash your writs, that it's 'down the road', not 'across the street'.

As for growing up - what, and become like you, seeing bad things everywhere I look? No thanks.

Last night the cheering was an embarrassment but hopefully a highlight to those who did it was that he didn't make a mistake while the cheering was going on, I doubt they will accept it but all they could do was cheer ironically at all his successful passes and runs. He played a big part in the second goal and it was his good positioning that forced the defender to turn the ball in for the third.

Last night I took a group of friends that haven't been to see derby before. Each supports a different club but all commended sammon's efforts and two said he was their MOTM before the miss. Not one of us saw a reason Coutts was on the field especially with Jacobs on the bench. He did so little all game and his communication with Freeman looked all over the place. That shot was the only thing of value I can recall from his entire game yet Sammon is the one getting the abuse.

Thing is Shabash Sammon got an assist last night and in fact set up Coutts for a chance and he missed it...other than that what did Coutts actually do?

Amazing that we win 3-0 and there are still some people bigging up the negatively (not aimed at you Shabash). Incidentally Ward took a poor penalty that was saved and the reaction from some is sing the Ward song, getting behind him...is it too much to ask to do the same for Sammon? After all he did some things right last night?

If thats the only bit you want to focus on then thats fine, but it shows your mind is set on Sammon. Dont bother remembering that he chested a shocking pass down and burst into the box to create that chance for himself.

It's not what I only focused on, no.

I'm just saying, it was quite funny when he did that.
