FlyBritishMidland reacted to Foreveram in Transfer rumours
I remember when we were all so relieved when David Clowes finally saved us from extinction and we were universally grateful.
It must never happen again people cried.
Then some said, within a short while people will forget, and demand that things are done immediately, and why aren’t we doing this and that.
And here you are.

I'd have been more surprised if they weren't having a meeting with a week to go of the transfer window.

I don’t know, maybe it is a crisis meeting, or maybe it’s been in the diary for a while to take stock of where we are currently in the transfer window, I guess crisis meeting sells more papers.

What if....what if....what if!
Why not wait and see what happens? Neither you nor I will change it.

Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. Years gone by, none of this stuff gets spoken about. Now the club, and Warne, are relatively open about some things and it just feeds the frenzy. Nothing about what has been said strikes me as different or surprising, just it’s now public.

Why do you suspect it’s a crisis meeting when it’s been explained on several occasions that the same personnel have regular meetings to discuss recruitment.

Let us not forget that we have a striker in Yates who hasn't been available to us yet. Obviously we all want a striker, as do the other 23 team in the division. We need a plan B for sure but as of yet we don't know what dynamic Yates will add.

Does he say that only one player is being spoken about?

Back in May PW said things would go down to the last few days. Now fans seem surprised that it's, well, going down to the last few days.
I saw stage 1 of the Clowes era as gaining promotion to the SBC. Job done. Done inside two years when you're under a transfer embargo means the pool of players you could go for is drastically reduced.
Stage 2 is building a successful SBC squad. We're doing that while wishing to remain sustainable and self sufficient. Consolidate this season and avoid relegation. Next season, improve the squad again and finish comfortably in midtable. 26/27 further improvements and have a go at top 6. Season after, if we haven't achieved promotion, that will be a season where we really should be in with a shout. Those are the steps that seem logical given everything DC has said. I'm comfortable with that approach.
There will be those who think we ought to be competing towards the top this season. I don't think we had the money to achieve that. I'd love us to be top 6 come May but, in all honesty, I'm not expecting it.

McGoldrick had his best scoring season ever under Warne despite only having one goal until the 29th October.
Wildsmith played 97 of his 191 career games at Derby, conceding only 88 goals with 42 clean sheets - won the best goalkeeper award. Moved on to big money sitting on West Brom's bench.
Nyambe flourished after being without a club until end of September after being released by relegated Wigan.
Nelson became a crucial role and player of the season, being the only outfield player in the league to play every minute, after being released by two clubs in the previous season.
Mendez Laing has become a full international and captain under Warne after a few years of upheaval between clubs.
Ebou Adams became a stalwart and loved by all after barely playing at Cardiff for 18 months.
Likewise with Kane Wilson, going from playing only a few times at Bristol to being a fans favourite at Derby.
Sure there's been a few duds like Washington and Fornah, but overall, the strike rate is pretty high for signings.
I'd suggest that Warne has been highly successful in progressing careers of many players at the club, both old and young.

Mine? Almost always 😄
I get the concerns some have about Warne when it comes to playing style/tactics/player development. But I can also see that we have made signings and attracted SOME players in all the time he’s been here, so we’re not exactly a footballing leper colony on account of his presence.

Maybe the people actually involved in football have a bit more knowledge than you and think Warne is ok at what he does!

Add to that Palace saw it as an acceptable opportunity for David Ozoh’s development to send him here. Kenzo allegedly chose us over a Robin van Persie coached Heerenveen side. We’ve just signed a goalkeeper who is apparently well regarded in Europe and was being scouted by PL sides. I think the club, or the league we’re in, or maybe even Paul Warne, still has some appeal for signing players.

Really? Osula and Dobbin came here, developed and played games for there teams in the Prem after being sent here. Both gone for multi million pounds.
Bird had his most productive season and under Warne. Sibley got lots of minutes and moved to a champ club. Knight was sold to a champ club after playing for Warne and got international appearances.
Cashin was tried to be bought by Brighton and has developed over the last 2 years.
Other players like NML have had there best seasons in competitive football under Warne
I think some people are blinkered tbh

Rejoice all ye who wait desperate for news, we have a new rumour! The Daily Record in Scotland credits us with an interest in 24 year old, twice capped Swedish cb Gustaf Lagerbielke. It would be a loan move from Celtic, but there’s also mention of Heerenveen being in for him in the article and on Twatter….but we got Kenzo over them right? So who knows. It’s probably pish anyway, but a rumour nonetheless! Maybe Zetterström can have a word…

FlyBritishMidland reacted to Allen in Transfer rumours
Maybe I’m deluded but I happen to think we have a great club. Great support, fantastic facilities and really good people at the club. We’re not where we want to be at the moment (I think we all know that) but PW. DC are trying their hardest to change that. Why some people are so negative and look for any possible way to criticise the club is beyond me.

Not directing this at you only but a general response. Everyone needs to relax and realize we will still get 3 signings in maybe even 4. The amount of deals that happen in the last week and even that appear out of thin air on the last day is amazing. We will get players in we just have to wait like every other club.

FlyBritishMidland reacted to jono in Louie Sibley - joined Oxford
Don’t buy it. He had a few good games and that hat trick day was very special but he is never going to be a Paul Scholes. Champagne moments once in a while but he never gave me that feeling ….. “Woooah Sibs has got the ball, magic is about to happen.” If he was as good as some believe I know I would have felt that. I didn’t.
That said, I wish he had stayed, useful all round player on his day, but he wanted a change or a bigger paycheque.
Potential AM god ? I just don’t see it. Oxford are lucky though. Sibs on a free .. good business

I agree completely.
The striker market is a joke at the moment and we can only get in what we can.
Didn't understand people turning their noses up at Woodrow.
-
FlyBritishMidland reacted to Srg in Transfer rumours
I'm fully aware about all of this.
My point was that some seem to think we can just nip out, sign a decent striker and we'll be sound to compete, minimum mid table.
-
FlyBritishMidland reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in Transfer rumours
As I have said before, we can't yet. There really is no point in looking at other teams like Norwich and saying look at them spending that money. Just because they are spending that on an unknown striker, does not mean he will score more than Jerry Yates.
With Norwich look at their outgoings from 23/24 -
Andrew Omobamidele - Sold to Forest for 12.85 million
Max Aarons - Sold to Bournemouth for 8 million
Milot Rashica - Sold to Besiktas for 5.25 million
Total sales - 26 million
Outgoings so far this window:-
Gabriel Sara - Sold to Galatasaray for 18 million
Adam Idah - Sold to Celtic for 9 million
Christos Tzolis - Sold to Dusseldorf for 3.25 million
Total sales - 31 million.
So in the last 2 seasons they have made 57 million quid in player sales. 2 season ago we had 5 players on the books.
Last season Norwich spent £3 million quid.
If they sign this striker for 8.5 million then they would have spent around 18.5 million this window.
So made 57 million quid in spending around 22 million.
This is what we are trying to get to. But we wont be there for a while yet.

One of the few footballers whose name can be represented in picture form.
-
FlyBritishMidland reacted to MadAmster in Transfer rumours
He'll be 33 in October. No way would we pay a big loan fee and full wages. Nor would we pay a transfer fee and give him a 2 or 3 year contract.

👍 I wish for Cashin to be okay foremost, take as long as is needed, can't mess about with head injuries.
